Talking geojpaige

I am new to this board and somewhat new to Airstreams. (I have searched several sites and talked to a local rebuilder of Airstreams.) My wife and I would like to spend several weeks traveling to the Continental Divide National Parks. (We live in the foothills of CA.) Our towing vehicle of choice is my 40 Ford Pick-up. It is stock on the exterior but has a modified Chevy 350 engine hooked up to a 700R4 automatic tranny. I have put in an independant front suspension with 11 inch disk brakes. I have power streering, power brakes and air conditioning. The rear end is a 9" Ford with parallel leaf springs and coil-over shocks, and Lincoln 11" drum brakes. The frame has been boxed and reinforced. The bed is mounded on a steel sub-frame and mounted to the frame with custom rubber mounts. The bed is made of oak strips held in place with stainless steel strips. (Yes, it is really pretty, but it's an everyday driver.) I would love to tow an smaller Airstream (Bambi or Caravel). The wife and I have been looking at the Casita trailers and are impressed - but my Ford and an Airstream would be so retro. Any thoughts, comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

Would be a cool combination--very retro.

Any pictures of the truck available?

Welcome Geo,

I think the combination of a 40 Ford and a small AS would be sweet. My dad had an old 40 Ford when I was a kid and thought the headlights were beautiful. A vintage Caravel or Bambi would be my tow of choice.

You may want to PM Levon. He used to tow with an old F1 pickup and has a couple of Bambi's and a Caravel or two in his herd. He can provide some relevant opinion on the subject.
Regards,

Kevin

Hi geo, Sounds like a nice truck. Pics please.

Casita Trailers are pretty nice but it's know vintage Airstream.

I'm very bias though...

Welcome Geojpaige,

You live in a beautiful part of the world. We have a little place up in Nevada City. I think that a little Caravel like Lee's above would look great behind your 40 Ford! Cant wait to see pictures as well.

Lee,

That's a nice shot of the Burb and the Caravel. The two Cruisers mounted to the roof rack really round the package out nicely.

I'd love to post some photos, but, and I hate to admit this, I don't know how to insert photos. I have a pc, windows xp, and my photos are on Jasc After Shot. The photos are in a folder that I've created called airstream. I also have the dscn numbers. What do I do?

From the forums 101 thread

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f138...ics-44928.html

  • When creating a thread or posting a reply, scroll down below the text box to the 'Additional Options' area.
  • Click "Manage attachments." A separate window will pop up.
  • Click "Browse." Then select the file from your computer to be uploaded. Be sure that the photo is appropriately sized. 1600 x 1600 pixels (or smaller) and no more than 3 Meg. Forums software will automatically reduce the size, but smaller size photos will upload much faster. You may select several photos to upload at the same time by repeating the last step.
  • Click "Upload." After pics have loaded close the pop-up window
  • Complete your post. Click "submit reply" to mount the text of your message - photos will automatically appear at the bottom of your post.
How to add a photo in the middle of a post's text
  • Follow steps 1 through 4 of the above instructions for one or more images.
  • As you are typing your post and reach a point where you want a specific image, hit 'Return' on your keyboard to give the following command its own line.
  • Above the text entry window click the paperclip 'Attachments' link and select the image you wish. Text in the format [ATTACH]NNNNN[/ATTACH] will appear.
  • Hit 'Return' on your keyboard to continue typing on the next line. The image will show up within the body of your post and not at the end.

About attachment storage limits

When you upload a copy of an image file (or other attachment) it is stored on our servers. There are some restrictions on how much data can be stored.

Registered members are limited to 50 MB of attachment storage for items posted to threads and posts and 100 MB for files posted to the photo gallery. We highly recommend that you reduce file sizes before uploading them to posts and threads.

Contributing members have unlimited attachment storage for threads and posts. A contributing membership is an annual commitment. If a contributing membership reverts to a standard account, loaded images will still remain, but if you have exceeded the storage limits of a standard member account (50 MB), you may be unable to load more attachments. And remember ... all images loaded to posts (regardless of your membership status) must meet the size requirement above. If they are larger, they will fail to load.

How to embed an image stored on another site:
You can do this by using image tags. Upload the image to a service like imageshack and then copy the URL of the image and put that between [IMG] tags. That will work well, as long as the host site stays in business and doesn't disable your image for overuse of bandwidth etc.

You can also paste in the location of a photo stored here at AIR in a photo gallery.

To do this: Paste the url of the image into your post. Then add the following code on either side of the url (with no extra spaces):

[IMG]url here[/IMG]

The image will appear where the url was in your text.

Welcome to the forums! I highly recommend finding a vintage Bambi or Caravel.... nicer layout than a Casita to my way of thinking. We pull our 1963 Bambi with our 1968 Ford Truck, and it does just fine... you can see a pic if you go to the registry and take a look at ours and other folks....

The downside, sometimes the smaller trailers are hard to come by, but in this economy someone's gotta be selling....

If you won't really be looking until Spring or later, check out some of the rally schedules and find one near you... drop by you may likely see some sweet Airstreams and get invited in to look see.

Best of luck finding what fits your style best!

40 Ford Pick-up pics

These are the pics of my 40 Ford Pick-up. I finally figured out how to do it. My pics where in TIFF format after I resized them. I had to convert them to JPEG. Now, maybe, they will be available.

I can see! Your photos.

Very nice looking truck. The Ford will look very nice pulling a vintage Airstream.

Have a great New Year!

wowzers... awesome!! I love the curves of an older vehicle. There was so much imagination then. And it was easy to tell one from another. Today its harder and harder to tell them apart.
