Future Airstream Dweller

Hello, all! I'm Andrea from Southern IL.

I'm currently in the beginning stages of fixing up a 1957 Airstream with the intention of living in it through my last year of college. The trailer was purchased by my late grandfather in the '80s. He lived in it until shortly before his death seven years ago. It's fallen into a state of disrepair since then.

Our current plans are more customization than restoration. I want it to maintain a vintage feel, but with some modern conveniences. Plus, I'm a technophile, so I must have room for my computers.

I'm not sure what model it is. I think it's an Overlander, but it might be a Sovereign of the Road.

Here's a link to a shot of the outside. If anyone can identify the model for sure, I would appreciate it:

Hmm, well, I just found some pictures which are making me lean more toward Sovereign. I'd still appreciate input.

Welcome to the forum! Your Airstream is a Sovereign of the Road. The Overlander's were single axles in 1957 and your model is a double-axle.

Thank you! I was beginning to think that, but I hadn't found pictures of either until to-day. I was just basing it on my estimation of the size of it.

You are welcome! Check back in again and post some pictures as you progress in your work. I'd love to see what you do with it on the inside.

Hi Tamper and welcome to the forums! What a neat coach, more pics would be fantastic!

Are you at SIU? I am in Carbondale at SIU myself and I would love to see your coach if I could. On a side note I will be moving into my 24ft Trade Wind full time this weekend so we will see how that works out......

Anyway, good luck with your project!

Welcome to the forums. You are very lucky to have inherited not only the Airstream but your grandfather's good sense in keeping it alive. The trailer will always be special to you. Keep us informed of what you do. here is a link you might be interested in to the Vintage Airstream Club.
