Greetings--I'm feeling challenged in the area of navigating the forums, though I will be navigating Sheila the 1986 Classic Motorhome across the country from the northern CA area to western NC during the months of late March, April and May. I made the trip westward bound in 2011 and am now headed back. I'll be traveling with 2 Siberian Huskies and a harmonica player. I'll be aiming for the flattest route possible and keeping her on 'cruise'. Sheila enjoys a good day out on the road but she likes to take her time and I don't rush her. We'll take some brief excursions onto parts of Route 66, explore some boondocking possibilities but mainly taking 99 to I-40, then south around Memphis to pick up I-20 then up through South Carolina as I want nothin' to do with that stretch of I-40 between Nashville and crossing into NC.
I just wanted to 'say hello' and I hope I haven't done anything wrong here...

Now I'm going to try and locate where I should post questions regarding the 'flattest route possible'.

Welcome Sundog.

Hit the "forums" tab at the top of the screen and then find "On The Road".

That is where questions pertaining to routes, campgrounds and such are posted. When you post anywhere it will always show up on the portal for everyone to see. These posts disappear quickly though so it doesn't hurt to surf the individual forums for more info.

If you have a GPS, and it tells you to take US 129, don't do it. That road is so crooked the front and rear bumpers of your 345 will be touching each other...

Also us441 through the park is closed last time I checked. Looks like i40 may be your best choice. Jim

The old detour from when I-40 was closed a couple of years back up to Knoxville and down "future I-26" to their house would be an alternative. No terrible curves, but more hills, too.

It may be time consuming, but you could try Google Earth. It's like a map, but with photos instead of graphics. When you move the cursor over land, or a road, the altitude reads out on the bottom of the " map ". It also shows coordinates.
I used it to find out that the top of my ten acres was 1200 feet above sea level and the bottom was 1100.

Under the Search link on the taskbar at page top -- I use 'Advanced Search' a majority of the time with the understanding that more than one search word will return too, too many hits. Two or more search words -- use the Google Search -- 4th section down on the taskbar search link.

The third choice is just as good -- ask. Wait ... you just did that.

You can literally drive down the road with google earth. Just zoom in on the road. It will flatten out just as though you are on the road. Follow the yellow line. Dragging the curser.

...All really great suggestions, thank you. I'd like to try Google Earth and see if it will flatten out Tehachapi

but I think it will be fine even if that doesn't work. I'll go to the "On the Road" forum and explore, as well as forums 101 as I thought I'd originally posted in the New Members section but was not locating it today when I browsed posts. And thanks for the GPS warning Overlander63; no GPS, no kissing bumpers, no worries.
