Front bedroom or back bedroom question?

Thank you for allowing us to join your forum! there's so much information here!

We have been full timing for 11 years and just sold our 45 foot class A motorhome. We are looking to continue on shorter trips with a travel trailer, hopefully an Airstream.

Our question .... in looking at the floor plans, can you share the advantages and disadvantages of either the front front bedroom or the rear bedroom. Both are nice plans but there must be a reason and would appreciate some education on this.

We are considering either a 27 or 28 foot with twin beds. Though I love the Classic model!

Look closely at the lavatory sizes. I can't speak to the longer trailers, but for our 25 foot Rear Bedroom Twin - here is why it was right for us.

1. Lower tongue weight
2. Larger lavatory
3. Window in lavatory
4. Twins can be made into queen with a couple of pieces of plywood across the aisle, but the twins provide another 'lounge' area if required. Twins are also oriented north/south instead of east/west of the queen.
5. Rear twins have amazing outside rear trunk
6. Bedroom in rear is quieter, with wrap-around windows a spectacular view from the bedroom/lounge
7. In the 25' RB floor plan allows for gas oven and microwave, whereas FB requires you to choose.

We have the 28' rear bedroom flying cloud and really like that layout. I guess it is just habit but like having the door at the front of the trailer. With the rear bedroom you enter from the front portion of the trailer. With a front bedroom you will enter the trailer from the back portion of the trailer.
We also like the bedroom in the rear because it is usually quieter. The 28' has the bed with the full walk around and the bed oriented front to back instead of sideways as in the 25'

I've had people tell me they prefer the front bedroom because if you back into most sites, and the best scenery is away from the road, your view from the lounge is better.

In agreement with earlier posts. Outside storage access sucked on our former 27FB, but is incredible with our 30 Class with rear queen bed.

The good news is that you are looking at a twin configuration rather than a queen. Whether you go front or rear is a matter of preference. We went with the front bedroom as we have always had better views from the rear of the trailer. Yes, the door is at the back, but usually most campsite configurations have grill and table further from the road and therefore, closer to the rear door.

The other plus about the twin configuration is the additional outside storage access you get over a queen. I always thought it would be a hassle to have to lift all the bedding of your queen to get to storage underneath.

I prefer the rear bed 28' that we have. The main advantage is that the big side windows are on the same side as the awning and door. So, if we park to take advantage of a view, it is good both inside and out. Also, most private campgrounds have your patio on the curb side which again is where I prefer the primary windows.

It is also handy to have the door nearer the front of the trailer. We have had many sites were I have the back of the trailer hanging over a some type of drop off to take advantage of a view and wouldn't be able to do so with the door at the very back of the trailer.

The tongue weight advantage of a 27 verses a 28 probably is minimal after the trailer is packed and ready to roll with storage under the bed carrying more weight then under the lounge.

I had a Bambi with the rear bedroom and now a 27 front bedroom. It took a bit to get used to the door being to the rear, but now I like that it's further from the roadway.

The view is generally better, but occasionally we've backed up to shrubbery or a wall and that was a less-than-exciting view for the weekend from the main living area. If i'm being nosy at night, i can peek through the curtains at the road while still in bed :-)

All in all, I'd probably be happy with either.

There are a lot of things to consider, but most of them aren't a huge deal. I'm not sure about the 27-28', but in the 25s, the FB does not have a fridge fan, while the RB does. RB has a larger lavatory, but much smaller mirror/storage overhead. As noted above, RB can have the microwave plus the oven.

I would recommend going to a dealer and spending time in each. There are nuisances that aren't talked about in the brochures.

We have owned both front and rear bed 25's. Many times you back in or pull through with the view in the rear. We like the rear facing lounge.

We have logged 1,800 nights of camping in our FB's. We prefer the FB because more often than not, the view is at the rear dinette.

I like my rear bedroom. I like to sleep in. Most campground noise comes from the road. I like the front lounge so I can see what's going on out in that busy road when I am awake.

We have the flying cloud 25 rear twin.

1. Big time storage outside, 4 compartments.
2. Door up front, +1 for us
3. Rear bedroom makes for a bit quieter sleeping.
4. Twins make for big storage under beds
5. Twins double as couches to sit on
6. Oven, stove, and microwave/convection
7. Big bathroom
8. F150 towable
9. We're outside folks, going out to get the view isn't an issue for us.

We wouldn't want anything different than what we have, 2015 Classic with Queen. We had a 25 with twins, and while we loved the space it provided, hated sleeping apart. We really love it when we can open all of the shades and windows, really sweet.
