From France...

I live on the french riviera and i love classic cars and everything related to it. Me and my wife are the proud owner of a 2007 gt500, 1966 mustang convertible and a 1955 chevy truck " task force". We imported by ourselves each car from US and we enjoy them under the sun of the french riviera !!
Now our next project is to buy a classic airstream and tow it with the pick up. I asked question already in the appropriate thread. We want to learn everything about the airstream, restore it and ride it

If some "airstreamlovers" are coming to south of france; I would be more than happy to take care of you.

See u on the road...or maybe not !!

( i know my english is not perfect...but i'm not using google translate you can correct me ! no problem ! )

Welcome mes amis.

That Airstream will be a good place for your wife to wait while you're banging on the Ford trying to get the shifter linkage unstuck.

I had a Softail Custom much like the one that you're riding and all I have to say about that is "Get some mufflers on that dang thing!". Good scooter tho' - I put 175K miles on mine.

Not sure how well an A/S will fare on the narrow city roads there but you can always go really slow and be careful. Take it to Arcachon - it's a nice little bay side town and the climb up le Grand Dune is worth it for the view. Come to think of it you're already on the ocean so maybe just buy a postcard online and spend the money on parts.

Good luck with that case of aluminitus you've both come down with. I haven't really found a cure.

You might consider that the early Airstreams were narrower than today. I think the width changed twice between 1950 and 1970. 47WEEWIND would know for sure, or FORREST.

So, I believe, are the export models made in Jackson Center, OH.

Hi Rems,
There are a few forums also in Europe which are dedicated to all things Shiny, for one, i have not yet taken my 73 Overlander to France yet, but a handful of the UK members have and so have some of the Dutch Airstreamers, I imported mine in 2010 and as you already know it is not as difficult as some say it is. If you do manage to source a suitable A/S you will find that there will always be members both sides of the pond that will gladly share information with you on restoration, parts, and other resources.
What you have to decide is what size Airstream you are looking for, and if it is a Vintage trailer, will you want to keep original or modernise the inside, we opted for modern with a retro look, but we used much of the old aluminium framework as it is very light and was still in good condition, when ours arrived in UK it was as is from 1973, even the old 8 track was still working,
Airstreams are built to last

Good luck and regards
