Smile Found our wish - 1969 Caravel

Hi guys, we just got home with our "new" 1969 Caravel. We camped all the way home and it was great. Now the work begins. We are looking for some parts. Plastic beige cabinet latches, front door handle, two front curved side windows measuring 24"x16" and last but not least, a front window guard. Thanks ahead of time for all your help.

Hey, WELCOME!
I got a 69 Caravel from a great fella in Utopia, TX. The windows will be a BIG problem....but, just keep at it at watch the ads....Then get a front window guard. Andy at Inland can help with most hard to find items too. A great Airstream...wide body Caravel.

A lot of that equipment and parts you can order from inland RV here is the link to their site. While you are there check out the 'centramatic wheel balancers'

You might call Berning Trailer Sales in Ft. Wayne, IN. They were one of the first Airstream Dealers in the Midwest. Their phone number is 260-749-9415.

When I was last there, they had stacks of new OE and used Airstream windows. They also had tons of vintage Airstream parts.

They have been having a going out of business (retirement) sale for some time.

Hey Beecavetx,

Congratulations on the Caravel. 1969 was the first year design that used frontal wing windows and they were a different design than the 70's era units. The 69 wing windows are unique in that they have three right angle corners (upper inside corner and both lower corners) each as opposed to just two right angle corners (both inside corners) on the later year models. As such they can be very difficult to find.

Others with 69's have come up with some alternate ways of addressing this issue.

These threads for offer up an idea or two.

or this one though it is not a 69 it is unique. Starting at post #58.

Keep in posted as to your progress.

Kevin

thanks everyone, it looks like we have two right angle inside corners and two rounded outside corners...the vin number says it is a 1969 and was 121 off the line , so perhaps it has a 1970 window ? What does 0E mean? Called the place in In. and they have a 1969 windows that have three right angles and one oval . Do you think we can make them work ?
