Found our little Bambi!

For the past 8 years I have only just blown out the lines with a small compressor at 60psi.

This year with my new 30’ I decided to do both - blow out the lines + run Rv anti freeze through the fresh water system. Overkill for sure, but there is no risk of disaster

I blow out the lines and then pump antifreeze in, including the tank rinse.

So glad you got your Bambi home and are nesting with it!

So True! I got up twice last night to check on it as it's parked in the street in front of our house so we can do more work today.

Thanks for the pictures. Airstream engineers are masters at small space designed in efficiency. And that CCD interior looks great. You better go out and check on it one more time.

I blew out the copper plumbing lines on my 75 Overlander this fall. Then I proceeded to remove the copper lines as I will replumb in PEX. I was surprised, no shocked, at how much water was left in the lines after the compressed air blow out. I had nothing but air at every faucet. I even opened the low point drains.

So I always recommend blow out as much water as possible, and then pump in RV antifreeze until you get red at every faucet. Make sure there is a cup of antifreeze in every trap. That is the best way in my view.

Congrats on your new Bambi. We love 'em.

On winterizing, you might consult with your nearby AS mechanic (Windish RV) and ask what they recommend. We generally get our winterizing done by an RV service center. Most times they blow out the pipes and add the antifreeze.

When dewinterizing if you've added the antifreeze, just run a lot of water through your system. Then normally we drink other water for a few camping trips before drinking from the tap.

I would definitely not rely on windish. You are much better off learning how to winterize yourself, then you’ll know it was done right. There is plenty of support on the forum to help you out.

Thanks all for the various experiences and input, we appreciate it!
It's always a challenge to figure out what best to do, though perhaps in this case either way should work out well if executed properly. So we drained the system, used our air compressor to blow out the lines, tilted the trailer tongue up and down to move water around, more air, and then hauled it back out for it's winter nap with everything open for a good shakedown... then one more blow-out at the storage yard. We left the pump disconnected on both sides after clearing it out and then poured AF in all of the p-traps. We'll let you know how things look when we refill and recharge in the spring ;-) We'll either be successful, or I'll be looking for tips and tricks on plumbing fixes.

So, any quick suggestions for best web sites for trailer parts? I made quite the list while cleaning today; LED bulb replacements, replacement bezels for fantastic fans, all those little things :-) The trailer is in fabulous shape for her age, but needs some attention to the little bits.

Thanks again!

Curious: did you have a bad experience with them?

We often get winterized on the road. It's just easier to get an RV service center to do it, and usually not that expensive in the grand scheme of owning an Airstream.

I've had very good results with Vintage Trailer Supply. They have a pretty good website. You might find some of the items you need.

We started with a Bambi the Mrs purchased from a friend six years ago. Great trailer size that served us well for five years. While we've stepped up to a 23D, our Bambi is now in the hands of friends creating more memories and adventures.

Congratulations! We are also new (July) owners of a 19' Bambi. Unexpected health issues have not allowed us to get her out yet, but hopefully soon! 19" seems to be the perfect size. Love the interior! Ours is a '99, same layout, but not near as modern as yours, love the bedding!

Congratulations on your Bambi!

Our first Airstream was a 2007 19' Bambi CCD Blue Streak just like yours. We acquired a 2015 23FB, but could not bring ourselves to sell the Bambi yet. Too many great memories, and we just like it. So we find ourselves in the position of owning two at the moment. We rationalize it by calling the Bambi our "camping" trailer and the 23FB our "travel" trailer. Don't press me on the distinction between the two. The Bambi stays set up all summer in the backyard on a patio.

As previously mentioned, the Denver dealer (W) is not a shining example of AS customer service. We purchased the 2007 Bambi from them and it was not a good experience, along with service that was not done correctly and calls not returned, which is why we purchased the 2015 from Airstream Adventures Northwest in Boise.
