First time out, trial by storm
Well, new on the site, new to posting, new to RVing, new to Airstream....a true NEWBIE! Bought a slightly used 2015 Flying Cloud 25FB. Decided to de-winterize it and take it on the first outing the weekend of January 18. Left Thomas County Georgia and headed to Georgia Veterans State Park at Cordele, GA. Nice campground. Figured out how to work all of the systems. Great nights sleep Friday night. Went to the US POW Museum at Andersonville on Saturday. Rain cleared long enough to cook outside Saturday night. Went to bed as the rain and wind picked back up.
Woke up around midnight to high winds, strong rain, light hail, and about 2 hours of near continuous lightning. Not much sleep. Sunday morning brought the news of the tornadoes that struck within 3 miles of our home, killing one person, and continuing on to Adel where there were multiple fatalities. Disconnected and did the sewer deal for the first time, not too bad. Rains came again with light hail.
We delayed departure so the front could pass through in front of us. We stopped in Albany GA for fuel. Departed Albany about 3PM heading south on US19. Caught up with the front near home and endured torrential rain and strong wind. Thought we were goners. As we waited the storm out, we learned that Albany was being ravaged by tornadoes in the area we had stopped for fuel less than an hour before. Several more fatalities and unbelievable damage.
So, we certainly dodged several bullets on the first trip out. We had a good time and found out the AS can take some rough weather. Can't wait to take it out again!
