First Time Argosy Owners

Hello,

My husband and I have just purchased a 1978 24' Argosy. Overall in great condition. Needs the exterior endcaps painted, new upholstery, curtains and carpet. Everything else is in excellent condition. We are pretty excited and can't wait for our first adventure.

Juel, We saw the paint job on your trailer. What color and brand of paint did you use for the stripe and lower belly area nad what did you do to prep for painting?

Well, I am actually the idea man (woman) on these big projects. The paint selection and primer selection was up to the classic car painter who knows how to use the spray gun thingy. He's out of town working, so I can't answer your questions right now. I know it's automotive paint we had mixed to match the 1978 Argosy brochure as best we could. I will tell you that I have touched up those end caps for three years with Krylon Interior-Exterior spray paint #1504, Ivory Gloss. It's a perfect match and if you sand and clean the end cap, this paint stays on very well. Of course I didn't have extensive paint loss when we got the Argosy, so this is just repainting over areas that are pot marked or worn, not repainting the whole thing from scratch. I'll try to find the info you want and let you know about colors and primers. Use the search feature on here and you can find the factory color and the place to buy paint that will be the same as the manufacturer used. This is a great site for that kind of information.

The paint is DuPont Imron, and somewhere in the dusty shelves of the forums, we have a list of all the paint codes, by year. I'm running out the door right now, so I can't, but you can click the "search" button in the blue band near the top of the screen, you may find it pretty quickly.

Our 76 Argosy 24 needed the same kind of TLC, and end cap paint! For what it's worth, the match we (our painter) liked was from UAP/NAPA, and the mix 1972 Mercedes Light Ivory. I think the code is 623, and the other code on the can is 44672IB. It is a Urethane.
All the best!

Has anyone put vinyl on their floors instead of the original carpet. Or is that tabu if you are trying to keep it as original as possible.

You mean you don't like orange shag? or... did you have green.

Folks have put in sheet goods, pergo, bamboo, cork and a number of other flooring choices. Mostly it's about personal taste. You should change it to something that you would like.

We had orange shag and replaced with Cream berber in our Minuet.
In our Argosy 24 - which is 'undergoing improvement' we will use a bit of wood in the entry way and transition to carpet in the living space.

Family Camp,
Congratulations on your acquisition, I reciently purchased a Argosy30 after owning a 34' Limited.

I am in a learning mode myself so I'll be seaching the Forums for any details I can find. Having smaller holding tanks will be a big adjustment but I will just be more conservative.

I know you'll have alot of great memories ahead of you, John

I checked out costalotts.. thread. What a beautiful job you did. The only problem is you just inspired me to do more but our 4 year old twims don't seem to share my husband and I's passion for fixing up our trailer they would rather be at the park or out riding bikes. Some day we will find the time. But in the meantime we will put lay some vinyl flooring and re-upholster the couches.

We purchased the trailer about two weeks ago for $1300. We think we got a great deal. We have removed the beautiful orange shag carpet and there appears to be no water damage or wood rot. Is there anything inparticular we should be looking for?

Thanks for the warm welcome

That is a great deal on your trailer. Here's our floor. I wanted carpet because I hate the gritty feeling from tracked in dirt, but Bob won out on the wood floors.

Vicki,

Welcome and Congrats on the new Argosy. Karen and I sure enjoy our Minuet and are having a hard time waiting for spring here in Colorado. Next project is to R&R the belly pan then rework the counter and floor.
