First post from South Dakota

Hi everyone.

My name is Gary, I'm the father of four, husband of one, and grandfather of two. I work in the real estate business and have been self employed the last 36 years. In live in Splitrock township by Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I did woodworking as a hobby, then made a business out of it, now it's a hobby again.

I've had two motorhomes and one camper I pulled with my Goldwing. Those are all gone now. I always wanted an Airstream. This year I have been actively looking for one and I found one two miles from home. Bought as is without knowing much about it. It's going to be a remodel job with some component replacement. I intend to use it for summer outings and maybe as a snowbird.

This forum has two trailer model choices on the profile information menu and I guessed at the model. The tag on the outside says "International". The title says it's a 1976, 31' long. It has a center kitchen with twin beds in the rear. The front has a jackknife sofa and a loveseat. It looks like a nice layout.

It's pre-previous owner let it freeze up. It's been fixed(?) and it's been licensed and used and stored in a shed the last 7 years. The floor is solid and the body is straight and clean with one issue. The windows are all good and operating without problem with all the screens in good shape.

I ran the refrigerator and it cools on electric. I still have to check out the water system, tanks, and the gas system. The air conditioner blows warm air. One roof vent is cracked. They all crank hard. It has a crank up analog TV antenna on the roof. I want a Direct TV dish instead.

Thanks for the forum.

A big howdy, Splitrock! Welcome to the forums.

Take a look at the multiple Airstreams for 1976 31-footers at Vintage Airstream Photo Archives. Excella 500? Sovereign? Any of those match up?

Did I say 'welcome' yet?

Dittos on the "Welcome" Gary. Read your post on the P.O.'s dent in the roof and just bet you can get that repaired to your satisfaction. Sounds as if you have yourself a little project to have fun with getting her shaped up just like you want her. We recently added a DirecTV dish to the roof of our baby and love it. Go to www.motosat.com for one option. We'll be traveling through your state this summer and always look forward to S.D., especially in the dead of winter when harvesting pheasant. Have fun on this forum. You'll learn a lot from the knowledgeable and friendly folks here.

Hi Kevin, Thanks for the welcome!

Today I'm "D" man. (Demolition) I have everything out of the living area except for the diagonal shelf in the corner and I can't see how to remove that. I'm going to disinfect everything I can see in that area and start to replace some discouraging floor wood.

Do you (or anyone else as well) know of a how to do floor wood replacement thread? Thanks Gary

Welcome aboard, Splitrock! We have the same rigs. I've gone thru mine, stem to stern - luckly, I started out with a unit that was in decent shape. Yours looks great!

Thanks for the welcome! Did you replace the components (furnace, water heater, refrigerator)? I'm still taking inventory.

Eastern South Dakota is very pretty with hills, rivers, and trees.
