Cool First Airstream 4 us in San Jose

Hello, Everybody. Donna and I are new to Airstream, but old to camping and all the methods to do so.

I’ve been camping since I was a kid with Boy Scouts, going to the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair in a ‘59 Rambler Ambassador station wagon (anybody remember push button transmissions) pulling a small Siesta trailer for dad & mom, four kids, and a cat. Then as an adult with 1st wife (deceased) and two kids in tents, tent trailer, and a 26’ Terry 5th Wheel trailer. Then a long hiatus… The second Love-of-my-life, Donna (six years married), has done tents, truck bed campers, Hippie mini-vans, and a 30’ Southwind.

And back to now… We just traded up from a 2015 24’ Minnie Winnie (MW) 22C to our 2018 Airstream Flying Cloud 27FB. The MW was great to get back into vehicle camping, but was a skosh too confined for our liking, so we set out this past autumn looking for the next step. We looked at a lot of trailers and 5th wheels cheaply made and potential maintenance headaches. Then we saw the new South Bay Airstream dealer in San Martin, CA. We looked and liked what we saw. (The dealership opened on 2/1/2018, and we purchased our first Airstream, the third sale for the dealer.) I also traded my 2005 Tacoma for a “Write-Me-A-Ticket” Red Ford F150 Supercab pick-up set up for towing (I love it).

We’ve been playing with the new Airstream (no name yet) for about two weeks waiting for the new truck to get outfitted with extras, and are heading out for the Pinnacles Nat’l Park for our shakedown cruise this coming Sunday. The Pinnacles Campground offers only 30A power (no water or sewer, but has a dump station), so we’ll try both on-power and boon-docking to get comfortable and knowledgeable with all the systems and toys. Ours is newly set up with two solar panels that I’m really excited to see how well they work. More on that after we get back. I'm sure I'll have many questions.

We’re looking forward to meeting other Airstream junkies as we move down the road. See y’all soon…

Congratulations on your Airstream. It is always nice to hear about someone who "moved up" to Airstream after owning other campers. I believe you will be very impressed and well pampered in your new Airstream. You made a wise decision.

By the way, your new Airstream will last 50 years with proper maintenance. My 1975 Overlander is 43 years old and going strong.
