Finally!!

New to TT. With retirement this summer and after many, many months of researching SOBs (especially videos), we did it!
We selected our 2018 Airstream 23CB International Serenity last Friday from Patrick at Colonial Airstream. Class operation!
Pickup and orientation will be on April 25. I feel like a new father again!
This is gonna be fun!

Congratulations! We found the Colonial team to be very good to work with - before, during and after our purchase.

For your later use, photograph and video as much of the walk-through process and explanations of systems when you take delivery. You will not remember everything...

Patrick said to plan on sleeping over in their compound. Anybody do this? How did you do meals? Any suggestions are much appreciated.

We didn't stay, both because it wasn't offered and we needed to get back to FL. It was also December and pretty cold. If we had stayed, and if we knew what we know now, we would have probably brought some food in a cooler that we could move to the refrigerator and use to exercise the stove/oven/microwave. You could also just go out to eat and come back to the trailer.

Its a good idea to do so. It gives you a chance to exercise the systems, review what you learned, and ask questions the next morning. Highly recommended...

Yes, it is expected of you to stay the night at Colonial. The point is to test out EVERY system, every electrical outlet, check for plumbing leaks, use EVERY appliance, look under and behind every cabinet for leaks, wiring issues, crushed duct work.

I found MANY issues that needed repair.

Do not be in a rush.

Take the time to test the unit as much as you can. You won't be sorry you did!

Sounds close to an “all nighter” with flashlight and screw gun in hand.

Hello and welcome to the Airstream community. You can tell from the posts that folks are happy for you and offer some pretty good advice. There is a lot to learn about traveling with an Airstream.

One thing to check is the battery. It is not uncommon for a new battery to be "ruined" due to being completely discharged by sitting on a sales lot for many weeks. Sometimes these fully discharged batteries are toast. Maybe your dealer can perform a battery load test, or confirm you will not have problems with the battery on your first trip. Your new Airstream will want a "battery tender" or some trickle charging system while in storage.

Here is a photo of my new, old Airstream, a 1975 Overlander 27'. Not near as nice as your new one. Airstreams last a very long time and hold their value quite well. At least in this market.

We bought our 2005 Classic back in 2009 from a private party. But I have purchased a number of parts from Colonial. And I have always been treated professionally and honestly. In fact, we ordered a part while in Florida and they mistakenly shipped the part to our home in Omaha. When I called to check on the status of the part and they recognized their error, they sent us another new part to Florida via overnight delivery for no charge. Since then I have purchased several parts from them, including a new microwave. I would drive to NJ if I was in the market for a new AS. But with regular maintenance Airstreams will last years and years and thousands upon thousands of miles.

Congratulations on the new TT. (Oh ... one disadvantage of owning an AS, you will not be able to travel "under the radar". People will be approaching you all the time and commenting about your TT.)
