Hi all
Just found this site the other day and was very happy. My wife and I have a 2005 19" bambi live in Mass and travel when we can. We did a coast to coast trip last year and we travel all over New England.

We are quite excited with all the trip info on were to go for boondocking and other helpful tips. Thank you very much.

Here are some higlights of our trip.

After a gruling 4 day drive on highway 80 our first stop was Lake Tahoe . I did some mt biking as my wife rested up for Napa vally. We traviled down the Califorina cost and headed back on Rt 66. Beautiful views at the Grand Canyon. We took Rt 40 back to Virginia to visit family then back to Massachusetts. Are trip took almost 4 weeks. and have wanted to head out west again.

Sounds like a great trip, We are heading that way this Summer with 2 grandkids, I love the picture of the Grand Canyon. I don't think we'll make it that far, but who knows we just might!

I am impressed.

If I drive 600 miles on the first day I am so bushed on the second I can hardly move.

Whenever possible I try and keep my towing days to +/- 400 miles per day.

We are looking. One place we stayed in December ( dont know what it is like in warmer weather ) was Beartown state forest in Montery Ma out in the Berkshires. We like the area and for 8 dollers a night its not bad.

600 miles a day. Great. Before Airstream, we would average 550 miles per day traveling on interstates or empty 2 laners out west. We haven't been able to keep that pace up with the Safari. We have to toughen up for our trip east on I-70 in a month.

I don't drive quite as fast while towing, but it shouldn't make that much difference. I think part of the difference is a higher stress level towing which exhausts us.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed your trip west and come back soon.

That's quite a drive, to be sure. I have a hard time going 500/ day without a trailer due to a neck injury. Wish I could, though. I would really like to see New England in the springtime. And Alaska, and Mississippi, and Canada, and.......

Hey there Triple M - that sounds like a great trip! Nice pics.
We don't yet own an AS but are jonesing for a 2007 Bambi 19'. It looks great; we just need to finalize the money part and then go make an offer.
Question: did you both find the Bambi suitable for two passengers? We are not big people and figure the 19' should be workable. But other forums keep talking about people buying too small and wanting to trade up right away.

So you're happy with your Bambi choice?

What size to buy is the age-old question, and it will probably remain that way. Important things to consider in making your decision:

1) How do you plan to use the AS...weekends, month-long trips, etc...
2) How you get along with others in small small spaces...
3) How light can you travel?
4) Where do you plan to camp with it (ie, in places where small is good?)...
5) Do you want to store it at home?
6) What is your tow vehicle?

And there are other things, too....number of people? size of people? pets?

We personally are very happy with our 19' Bambi for how we use it at this time. Besides, it has a terrific "cute" factor! We will definitely get our money's worth out of the Bambi, even if we decide at a later date to move up in size....it was the right place for us to start, for sure, and we have no regrets.

Jim, go to the two Colorado dealers and check out all the trailers you can. See how the bed feels, see if you fit on the toilet (a lot of people's legs hit the door), sit in it and tell the salesman to go away for a while. Take a lot of time. Do not bring any money or credit cards with you so you cannot put a down payment on a trailer before you are ready. LIkely that the 2009 and 2008 are the same, and there still seem to be some new 2007 Airstreams at some dealers across the country.

When you do make a decision, start looking on the internet for dealers because you may well find a dealer in another state who will give you a better deal and service on a 2007, or a new 2008 may be cheaper than a used one.

Good points, and thank you for the thoughts. I think we'll have to spend some time just sitting in a Bambi and seeing how well we fit the bed/potty/table. That seems to be the constraint.

Cute factor is definitely way up there. On a recent drive along Hwy 1 north of San Diego we saw some Bambi and smaller AS on campgrounds right along the beach. That was a big push that got us past just thinking to looking and shopping and figuring our TV capacity.

As you folks are in Mass. maybe you could join us for the Chilly Man Rally at Salisbury Beach at the end of April. Check out the rally listing at the bottom of the page. If you haven't been there, Salisbury is really a nice place - right on the ocean where the Merrimack River emties into the Atlantic. The park is huge so you shouldn't have any trouble getting a reservation. Hope you can make it.
