Color suggestions for Bambi awning

Hi! I just put a deposit on a 1963 Vintage Airstream bambi and I'm having it renovated for a mobile shop. I'd like to stay true to the era it was made. Do you have any suggestions for the colors Airstreams would have been at that time?

I'll be needing advice on awning colors: Fabric Showroom: Sunbrella fabrics

And interior colors.

Thanks! I attached my bambi! Do you like it? I'm calling it Poquito. Hofarc.com will be doing to renovation.

Welcome to the AirForums!

The color pictures I've seen seen of sixties-era Bambis with Zip-Dee awnings seem to mostly have blue-and-white striped awnings.

I went with a vintage pole type awning on my 64 Bambi II. Blue stripes look perfect.

Just go with the color theme that fits your taste, no solids nor patterns, just stripes. Also, look for a set of vintage aluminum poles (no fiberglass).

against the grain....

It looks like I have slipped into a counter culture grain. I have had, and still do, have the striped awnings. I have both ZipDee and the Colorado. On both I have striped Sunbrella. (The ZipDee is the better of the two.) On my latest project 55 Safari I went with a solid Burgundy Sunbrella....it works with the colors inside and I like the clean classy look.....and not like every other Airstream you see. Now.....I love the look of the vintage pole awnings. I HATE them. They are a pain to install and take down. They are impossible in a rain/wind (get 'em down quick situation. Most important to me is they provide a dangerous condition in low vis conditions and night time. I have seen many trip and fall accidents because of the rope and tent peg layouts. The worst was a man who tripped, fell (on his 5000 dollar vintage guitar), and broke a hip.)

That's easily remedied. You can purchase luminous rope, that glows in the dark after being in the sun all day.

Or you can get tent pegs with luminous tops:

Neither option is true to the sixties vintage, but for the sake of safety…

Don't know; I've never bought it. An Internet search for "luminous rope" should provide some sources. You probably only need about 1/4" diameter, 3/8" at the most.

Harbor Freight has both the rope and pegs. You can also get them from Amazon. Shopping is so easy these days using Google.

Wow! Thanks so much folks! So far I'm thinking of stripes for sure, either blue and white or gray and white. I really appreciate all the ideas. What a great new family I'm joining!!!
