Camping Virgin

I was driving down the road and saw it.. An Airstream attached to a big honking GMC truck.. As I sat at the red light I got a wild hair, the car went to the nearest GMC dealer and 45 minutes later I had a new GMC truck.. The Airstream took me a week to find, going online looking at photos of new and old Airstreams. After I found the one I thought I wanted (19 foot Sport) I went to several dealers and walked into a 2005 25 foot Safari, I instantly knew it was the one. I cant wait to pick it up this friday, I had them change out things like the toilet (sorry I cant use someone elses potty)

I cant wait now, I have driving lessons next week then I'm off on my first camping trip EVER. I have taken notes from all the postings here on what I need to get, what I need to do and not do.. Keep your fingers crossed!

Congratulations, and welcome to the Forums!

Sounds as if you've done your homework reading, etc. Just take it easy on the driving and backing up, practice a little in an empty parking lot, and you'll do fine.

I have one suggestion: get a journal of some sort (or use computer) and keep a log of where you go, how it went, what you learned, what you didn't have that you would have liked to have, what you took that you didn't need, etc. That will pretty quickly evolve into some sort of packing checklist, that might just save you a future issue.

Hope we see you on the road.

I recognize that Airstream. It was there when we had our wheel bearings serviced, and a new charger-converter installed under warranty recently. We were camped at Davis-Monthan. Good service department.

A nice trailer with none of the dreaded filiform corrosion so many of us have, thanks to Arizona's dry climate, as I recall. Enjoy and we'll be back in your area sometime this winter.

Holy cow, what a welcome to the community. I'm so glad I got an Airstream now. I will post photos of the new baby hooked up to my truck when I pick it up. I'm so excited. I decided to have them install an electric hitch thing and a special tow bar called an Equal-i-zer, they also had to install a breaking thing called a P3? I'm getting lessons on driving with it even though I used to drive PLS trucks when i was in the Army because I want to make sure I'm not in over my head. I'll also post photos of the other modifications Had done like new carpet in the twin bed area and stuff.

My first trip is going up to Yellowstone so any advice on last minute camping areas with excellent views would be most appreciated.

Again, thank you for the warm welcome to the community!

Welcome to the forums! While you're in a shopping spree, you might want to also pick up a Honda EU-2000i generator, a couple of 6 gal. water jugs and a 10 gal. sewage tote cart. Boondocking opens up a lot of camping opportunities.

Great choice of equipment! I have been camping all of my life so I occasionally forget that some people have never camped! Thanks for reminding me! I hope you like the lifestyle. It isn't for everybody. I second the motion for purchasing a generator and spare water jugs. Have fun and welcome to the club.

Hey, Mario! Welcome to the Forums and welcome to another Tucson Airstreamer... you're in good company! You must have gone to Oasis...that's where we got our Bambi... Of course you know you're going to have to make it to a Four Corners Unit Rallly soon ... we'd love to officially welcome you to the wacky world of Aristreaming! There are a few upcoming rallies that are perfect... and the 4CU group is great.. PM me and I can fill you in with some rally details.

A suggestion: you might want to think about making your first trip a short one and close to home as a shake-down trip...so that you can see how everything is working and get your trailering legs under you...

You're gonna have a blast with your new toy!

Welcome to Airstream Forums. Yeah, like I own the forums. Except the truck, my wife took me to the Airstream dealer..."just to look." After about 45 minutes..."I want it!" I guess it was one of those "yes, dear." type of things...only I never called her dear.

Bottom line it happened that quick to me and I'm not sorry.

Good Luck,
Randy Bowman
