California Airstream

As part of our job, we attend events around California with a vinyl wrapped 2009 27'FB Airstream promoting California Tourism. Our last event was the Gilroy Garlic Festival, and enjoyed great garlic laced foods with 107,000 other attendees. Our next event is the Mountain View Art and Wine Festival, Sept 12-13th. We open the Airstream for visitors, and tens of thousands of visitors having toured our 27'FB. The most common comment, "I didn't know they still made Airstreams". Lots of stories about travel with grandparents in an Airstream. We can hardly wait until we can join all you folks by touring America's highways and byways in my Airstream.

Welcome from the Florida Panhandle

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

We would love to see some pictures of your decked-out 27FB.

We just spent almost four weeks touring California in our 25FB in May and June of this year. We really enjoyed our visit. We toured all the way from San Diego to the Oregon line.

Was it this one?

Welcome to the forums, Bob and Karen! If this is the same trailer, I saw it and went inside while you were at the Tour of California bike race on the day they finished in Paso Robles in February. Sounds like a fun job you have. Here are some pics of it I took...

Soooo, can this vinyl be removed once the job is over? I just prefer shiny aluminum....what can I say!?!

California Airstream

All,
Thanks for all the positive comments! It is great being able to tour around California, promoting our great state with such a wonderful travel icon, an Airstream trailer. I am still in awe everytime I see the Redwoods, Yosemite, or walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. To answer a few of your questions, yes it is the same Airstream you saw on the Amgen Tour of California. California Tourism is one of the major sponsors of this eight day, eight city, staged bike race, and it is America's biggest bike race, and the fourth largest race in the world. It is a similiar format to the Tour de France, and this year it even had Lance Armstrong returning to racing. Starting in Sacramento on Valentines Day, we ended in Escondido the following Sunday. The biggest challenge was moving each night to the next city. I know all of you think it never rains in California (I think the song has brainwashed us all), but this last February we had a major Pacific hit. Only an Airstream could have made it across one of the Bay Area bridges with 50 MPH winds. We then nimbly maneuvered through the mudslides of Hwy 17 to Santa Cruz. By the end of our tour 1.24 million will have attended events where we have exhibited the California Airstream, and tens of thousands will have toured the inside of the Airstream. we will be doing a similiar tour next year, then the vinyl will come off leaving a new silver finish. The trailer has never been slept in, or the bathroom used, but the refrigerator has seen quite a few adult beverages. Our next events are the Mountain View (CA) Wine & Art Festival, Sept. 12-13; the California Avocado Festival (Carpinteria, near Santa Barbara); and finally for the year, the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin & Art Fesival (near San Francisco), Oct. 17-18. If anyone can make any of these events please drop by the California Airstream for a chat. Attached is a photo inside.
I hope this answers your questions, Bob

California Airstream

Many people have asked how you can let tens of thousands of people tour the CA Airstream without wearing out the floor. The secret is we have put a vinyl coating on top of the original floor that we can replace as needed.(we'll be changing out the floor vinyl in November, so we'll have a new start for next season) Also, the dining table has a California map applied on it, in the same vinyl. The map coating on the table only cost $100. to apply, and it has been a big hit with Airstreamers.

Hi, this is a pretty big place [state] and I was born here and I still haven't seen it all; And probably never will.

As for California being broke, I blame our four seasons:

Fires

Floods

Earthquakes

and Riots

I agree!

It's called shop local, support the local economy. That's what we did this summer on our vacation. Stayed here in Calif. and saw some sites we hadn't been to before.
