Big Day and Getting Ready for Retirement!

Well we did it - we just traded in our 2005 30' Rockwood 5th Wheel for our new to us 2007 30' Classic with Slideout. Wow! What an awesome trailer!

Almost 40 years ago we started by backpacking, moved to car camping, then to a pop-up trailer (growing family), then a small 5th wheel, then the 30' 5th wheel, final to the AS. I've wanted an AS for as long as I can remember. When I was a boy my grandparents would get the family together and do slide shows of their trips to Mexico in their 16' Bambi in the 1950s & 60s. The "bug" was planted back then. Sadly when my grandfather passed away the Bambi was given to my cousin, who sold it after a few years.

Anyway - I retire in 2 months and we are definitely planning to do some serious Airstreaming!

Welcome aboard and that is a lovely rig you have there. Lots of great information is shared here. There is a search engine in the blue bar above that can start a virtual avalanche of information.

Wow, you have a beauty there! I'd like you to think about a nice cross-country trip after Christmas this year. Come down to the Canopener in Florida [http://www.airforums.com/forums/f288...a-115107.html] to have the best time with 200 of your newest best friends with Airstreams. The park is fabulous, the people are fabulous, the food and drive in fabulous, and there is much to do and see on the Panhandle.

Terrific Airstream and retirement plan. You'll love it, we're six months a year in ours. Your camping and RV'ing experience is much like our own and will be invaluable in your travels. Congratulations and welcome aboard !

Rasjad & Susannah,

Congrats. I have the same year and model with the slide. We really like it. Happy trails any as you're getting to know it, make sure you ask or search, someone probably knows something about it. Keep a close eye on the tires, that's a heavy tandem axle trailer.

Kathy- the problem with retiring is that you have to be old to retire?

Actually, you don't have to be old to retire. We do that to our rig about every four years; mainly due to mileage :-)

We love our 28' slide and it has seen 41 of the lower 48!

Ride with Pride, you're now among a friendly family of owners.

Congratulations!!! We bought our '04 S/O new in '05, retired in '06 and have never looked back. The camper is just wonderful and over the years we've remodeled and added various hardware to suit us. It's so wonderful towing your own, clean little house behind us and not worrying about hotel rooms etc etc. Enjoy every minute of your retirement.

We have the same trailer in an 06 model. We love it. We did replace the front couch with two recliners, ahhhh the good life. Not fully retired but still enjoying our Airstream.

Looks really nice and I am so jealous! Honestly don't think I will ever be able to retire but I do plan to be able to take 4-6 weeks off at a time. I can't wait for the adventure myself and plan to travel to your area - soon I hope! Nice TT! Have fun!
