Beware of tagsales

I told my wife that I was going to check out a tag sale Saterday morning.
She offered to come along without questioning why I was driving twentyfive miles to a sale , which I generally won't go more than a mile out of my way for. Buried in a craigs list garage sale posting i had seen Friday, between the outdoor furniture, books and housewares were the words "airstrem trailer". Upon arrival at the busy sale we browsed the items in the driveway. An eclectic homeowner had passed away and left
a large collection of furniture, decorative art pieces and the usual tag sale stuff. Through the rear window I caught a glimpse of weathered aluminum blue tarp. As lynn picked through the collectins of Christmas ornaments and farm implements, I slipped out of the garage and headed out back.
What I found was a 65 globetrotter sitting low in the weeds. As I inspected my find Lynn came around and realized the true purpose of the trip. We've discussed the idea in the past and had relegated it to "someday status". In general the condition on the exterior was good with a few dents, but the interior had sustained massive humidity exposure.
The asking price $3500. End of discussion. We went through the rest of the house without any purchases except for a cat carrier. Deciding to take another look at the trailer on the way out, we standing beside it when the woman running the sale passed by and suggeted we make an offer. When she passed on the way back we offered $500 She said she would take our name and let us Know if she had no other offers. Sensing We might be close I asked what It would take to make a deal. We settled at $1250.and she threw in the cat box and a bear costume I had my eye on. I've used the bear suit already but the trailer is going to take a little more time. For us a fair price considering it was close and though it needs complete renovation we have the ability to do it ourselves, thanks to all the info available on these forums. Ive allready learned so much and refer to the forums each step. Thanks for sharing your experinces. Jim and Lynn

I would have suspected something right away if my husband suggested going to a tag sale at all. Congratulations on your find, I'm sure that you will have great fun with your new project.

Welcome to the forums, Jim and Lynn. What a nice story about your new-to-you Airstream. I was going to suggest you change your forum name to Airbear, but it's already taken!

Wore the bear suit while riding mini dirt bike on mother in laws front lawn in vermont during her birthday celebration and family reunion. She must be so proud. She has a real bear that visits regularly. I have not figured out how to post photos here yet. Jim

Cool find! Globetrotters are really popular floor plans and you should have fun restoring it. Good price BTW
