Smile Az Rv'rs challenged..some say.. and retired otherwise

Karl and Arlene Dennison have been rv'ng for twenty years, married for 48 yrs...same folks. We have gone from tent camping with our kids to, a 22 ft Toyota..then a Class C Ford Diesel.
We enjoy people intereaction, having been a Marriage family, Child consultant for 40 yrs. You learn how to listen, and realize that modern day folks believe in over indulgences, not motivation for independance!.
Oh, well, that is deep water.
It may be possible that someone out there could guide us in the selection of an AIR STREAM RV...hopefully under 35', in pristine used condition. We would prefer a Cummin's Diesel 5.9 , and we will go anywere to get a great one. Hopefully we can find a Diesel, but if push comes to shove we could go gas.

we are LOOKING TO BECOME AIR STREAM RV OWNERS...with some limitations in that we want to go into National Parks..and prefer the more manuverable under 35 class A.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all the viewable great folks with Air Stream..hope to see ya face to face...

Karl Dennison

A 28' or 31' will be perfect for most sites. Check the cash in the shoebox; unless you buy something like ours with fresh everything, be prepared to dump another 10k into the silver dear. Feel free to pm us and come look at Bess in Ajo.

Welcome Karl, Airstream is no longer in the moho business. They made the classic mohos from 1972 - 1992, then went more to the standard fiberglass square moho look. I think they stopped production on the new style in 2005 or 2006.

Look in the classifieds right here for a start.

Also consider a standard trailer. The benefits? First you don't need a "toad" vehicle. You park the trailer, unhitch and drive off. Four fewer tires to maintain, six to eight tires if you use a dolly. One less engine to maintain. If you choose a midsize trailer you can tow with a 1/2 ton pickup or SUV which can also be your daily driver.

Where you're located you'll want to make the acquaintance of the FCU (Four corners unit) - lots of good folks, many with vintage Airstreams who will help you to make a buying decision that you can live with happily for years. There is a pretty good selection of Airstreams in Arizona - snowbirds use them in the winter and have them permanently parked. The real bad rust issues that happen in wet areas don't generally happen in AZ.

This is the best place to start! Attend some rallies, look at rvtraderonline.com, find a dealer or two and look - take your time - make the right purchase the first time.

Keep us posted re your search.

Paula

Hi Karl & Arlene ~ first off, welcome to the forums. You've found the right place for all things Airstream. Second - I'm just over a mile from your location and you're welcome to stop by and take a look at my TradeWind. I know its not a diesel pusher but its still an Airstream. Personally, I love the vintage units and don't know much about the MoHo's but I've been in a few and know a few folks in the 4CU that have a 345. We're having a New Years rally at Picacho Peak State Park about half way to Tucson if you want to stop in, I'm sure we could arrange an impromptu open house. There are about 30 or so signed up. Shoot me a PM (private message) if you want to hook up.

that is a very rare coach...

We've been looking for a while now (have a want add on Airforums). Check out Fred's Airstream Archive site for great details on the 93 classic. Believe that was the last year they were made. They are 36 footers. A little long for us but I would jump on one if it was available. We currently own an 81 Excella TD 280 classic motorhome. We awoke this fine Christmas morning (32 degrees or less here in Maricopa) to see water underneath the coach. Looks like we get a plumbing troubleshooting present to unwrap (more to follow in Classic Motorhome forum section).

Red face Ooops! I was wrong

Looks like you could get a diesel pusher classic 360 through 96. And 97 was the last year for the classic and they were all gas models.
