AS service in the Indianapolis IN area

I will be picking up a 1979 International 31' in Indy later this week and need the name of a reliable AS dealer that can do a thorough systems review and service/repairs. I would be willing to travel a few hours for quality and honesty. I am new to the forum and very impressed with the information content. Thank you.

hi fitz and welcome to the forums!

IF you are traveling east from indi,

stopping in j/c for a service/systems inspection and repairs is a great option.

generally the work they do at the a/s service center is TOP NOTCH.

and the hourly rate is comparable to other a/s service shops.

IF you can get an appt (in j/c) with just 1-2 weeks lead time, well....

that suggests just how incredibly SLOW business is in the rv world right now.

cheers

I concer with Lynn your best bye far bet is to swing by the Factory Service Center. Its not that far out of the way. 70 East to 75 North to the Exit 102 and east about 6 miles. They have parking in the rear and u can stay all night and be taken into service at 7am or before. They have all the info and experise that any owner could want, and besides they are really nice pple.
Trust your trailer only to the factory, then there will be no issues.
Welcome to the forums Always feel U can come here and ask Questions there's a ton of expertise here also.
Good luck with your new purchase
Roger

Just as the three previous replies state, you can't any better Airstream service on the planet than you will get at the Jackson Center service facility. The folks there are absolutely top notch.

Renting a tow vehicle in Indianapolis, IN

OK great advice to go to the factory service. Now I must rent a tow vehicle to get there and back from Indy. Any advice on this? I am having trouble locating a rental vehicle with a tow hitch and correct electrical connections. Does anyone know of a reasonable truck rental company or service that will transport the trailer for me? Thanks

Tow vehicle

If I were you, I would ask the previous owner if the trailer wiring has ever been modified for connection to the tow vehicle.

When I bought my Airstream, I had to disconnect the battery terminals before connecting to my Jeep's connection, or all sorts of fuses would blow in the Jeep when I connected to the trailer.

Something is cross-wired in the vintage Airstreams for contemporary tow vehicle electrical systems. The first thing I had to do was take both my truck (I sold the Jeep, not heavy enough for long term towing) and the AS to have the wiring adjusted into a new connector from the Airstream to the truck.

Yours might be ok, since it is newer. I'm sure some of the experts will be able to let you know here on the forums.

I'm sure there are some threads on this here on the forums. A search will probably turn up a lot of helpful info for DIY.

hi fitz'

there are a few threads on this topic...

here is a recent one.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f463...use-40747.html

IF the trailer is to remain IN indy and the goal is primarily an inspection and "systems review" as noted in the o.p.

consider looking 4 a LOCAL rv service center (any brand) who can do inspections and systems checks....

most of these issues (appliances, lp lines, electrical, plumbing, brakes, jacks, tires are not unique to 'streams...

major repairs (body, frame, windows) would be worthy of the 2 way trip,

but considering u have no tow vehicle a good local shop for the preliminary stuff is reasonable.

and there are 3 a/s dealer/service centers in the state...

here is the list...

cheers
