Hello Gary -- and welcome to the Forums! Are you looking to head to warmer states in the winter? Sounds interesting anyway.
If you want to tow sooner rather than later, 1983-84 is a good break point to aim for. Older than that and you'd be looking at potential axle replacement and lighter weight frames (search on: rear end separation). It's harder on the axles if the trailer has sat for some years (?5) without being moved. Replace tires right away if they're older than 4-5 years old.
The used Airstream market tends to concentrate in classifieds at this site, at
Vintage Airstream Club's classifieds, at the
mothership's classifieds, and at
Craigslist. It helps to watch over a period of time and keep returning to those sites -- especially Craigslist (
and narrow down Craigslist's geographic locations you'd consider).
It's possible to recruit some help from Forums members to check out a distant Airstream to see if it's worth looking into, but you'd better rely on your own firsthand judgement before making a purchase. eBay? Buyer beware...
How you going to use it? What're you thinking about? Always good to hear somebody else's story!
