And so it begins.....from Maryland

All,

I have been reading these forums for a while and even posted a bit but yesterday we finally actually became owners of not only my first Airstream but also my first RV! We bought a 27' Flying Cloud front-bed twin. It's a 2017 but slightly used; two AC units and a few other small options. We bought it from Colonial Airstream in NJ and it was very smooth (I bought it sight unseen based on their reputation and the reputation of AS in general). Interestingly enough there was another couple doing the same thing and we both overnighted in the parking lot there (they are from Minnesota picking up their first trailer and off to a cross-country adventure!)

In August we'd bought a Ford F150 (3.5liter, max tow package) to tow with and it went very well on our inaugural 220 mile drive home. I haven't towed much in the past so I'm still sorting out the "feel" of the brake bias adjustment but it worked fine on an intermediate setting (looking waaaaaayyyy ahead to avoid hard braking!).

And I checked; I got my first thumbs up at 31.4 miles! People really love to see an Airstream.

My wife and I don't have kids and just have a doglet (Yorkie, not quite a "real" dog) so this should be plenty big for our long weekend and occasional week-long forays up and down the east coast. Maybe the occasional 2-3 day boondock (we have the 160W solar and could conserve) but if I were a betting man I'd say that in ten years if I looked back at our habits, most of our stays will have been at campgrounds in the Blue Ridge mountains with some day hiking and fishing.

I want to thank the members of this forum. I've learned a lot from posts so far to the extent that everything went fairly well so far! What a wealth of experience and helpfulness in this group! Our first real trip (other than staying overnight on the Colonial lot) will be nearby and we have other planned progressively longer and farther away. I'm sure I don't know a lot that I don't know.

I will be hanging out mostly in the FC forum but wanted to do a proper (long....sorry!) introduction. No picture but you know what these things look like anyway. Hope to see some of you on the road in the future.

John and Sim (and Cutie)

Hi

Welcome !!!!

One of the great things about an AS is that you are not locked to one geographic point. If you want to do the beach one week and the mountains the next time out .... go for it. There is a lot to do inside "one tank of gas" range from just about anywhere. (Yes, the ocean beach in one tank of gas from Kansas takes a really big tank ... been there ... done that ...). Try a few short trips first. Be ready for a dash to Target for this or that. None of it will be major.

Get out and have fun !!!

Congrats and welcome!

Sounds like you are already being fun. And just because we know what "they" look like doesn't mean that you can't share pictures of yours when you get an opportunity!

Any thoughts about a name?

Safe travels!

Love the pictures, especially the one of the "dogleg" appropriately named Cutie! Brought a smile to my face immediately!

The AS and TV look great as well!

Thanks for sharing!
