And finally. ..we bought an Airstream

Well, we finally did it and bought our Airstream. We found a 2001 25' Safari that is in fantastic condition. It was only 2 hours away and well taken care of. The previous owners were lovely people and had the Airstream parked at a campground for 7 years, no towing. We are in the process of having new tires put on, bearings repacked, new battery ordered and checking propane tanks. My husband and I are making minor changes on the interior, flooring, lights and basic decor (making her our own).

Now as I sit in our home peering out the window, I shake in fear of the water tanks. Yikes! We don't know a thing about safe water tanks, grey water tanks, black water tanks. I have visions of dump stations with hoses winding thru the air spewing unimaginable things. So, I'm hopeful I can gain information on how not to poison ourselves and horrify other RV owners at dump stations. Since it's a used Airstream we didn't have the benefit of an Airstream dealer walking us thru the systems.

Thank you in advance for any info sent our way.

Cheryl

Congratulations!!

You might enjoy this newbie's guide:

The chapter (and cartoons) on tanks are particularly enjoyable! :-)

My wife and I just started airstreaming this year and that first tank emptying procedure turned out to be far less complicated than I had feared/dreaded...

Enjoy and good luck!

Cheryl, the only water tank you have to fear is the the black water tank. If it was so easy to poison yourself you would have thousands of RV owners laying on the side of the road. Rent the movie RV it is a great way to get over your fears and fun to watch.

Welcome have fun

You will learn. We all do.

There are lots of Airstreamers in your neck of the woods.

Have fun,

Thumbs up Welcome Aboard....

Cheryl,

What I would do if I were you.....

Seventy one miles from you is one of the best AS Dealers in the Country... Colonial Airstream

I'm sure Patrick would be more than happy to welcome a new Streamer, Camp out on his lot, ask questions and learn first hand from the BEST!!

Welcome

It's all really a lot simpler that it seems at first. As was mentioned previously try to find someone in your area that can advise you, an AS'er would be good but the square boxes work pretty much the same way. Be sure and watch the video clip of Randy Quade in National Lampoon Christmas Vacation, that will set your mind at ease.

Thanks everyone for the tips and humor : ) We will be in Lakewood, NJ the end of this month, so I think I might give a call and see if Colonial can give us a small tutorial. Definitely going to look into the movies for the laughs.

And finally. ..we bought an Airstream

Greetings Cheryl!

Welcome to the Forums and the world of Airstreaming!

Another suggestion for a movie to view about the lighter side of RVing . . . . The Long, Long Trailer. It is an oldie but a goodie starring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz with New Moon travel trailer. Many of the situations will be familiar situations faced by nearly every new travel trailer owner.

Enjoy your Airstream!

Kevin

It will all work out. Congratulations on bringing home your new shiny silver baby. I have visions of the dump station scene in the Robin Williams movie RV.

On your first trip, avoid getting to the dump station when it's busy, so that you don't feel pressured by a line of people behind you. It's a simple, step by step process. Wear rubber gloves so you can handle all the pieces without fear. If your trailer wasn't used for travel, you'll need to pick up some connectors and hoses while you are at the dealer anyway.

Hi and wlcome, I live in Denville, NJ and have a 2006 19' ccd Bambi. We just got home yesterday from the Blue Ridge Mtns. There is a very nice group of As owners who meet in Rockawy. If you need to dump local, go to Mahlon Dickerson County park in Oak Ridge. I get my work done by Garrick Rv. Be happy to help you. Here's my email begorragirl@earthlink.net
Welcome you're going to love it here!
