An Airstream at last!

When my folks and i were tentcamping across the 50's I fell in love with Those bright shinny sausages with the big red numbers. After 50 years of looking I became an owne of a moss covered flat colored grey tube. Isn't love wonderfull. My son who is living in it learns something new every day. It is a 1962 Ambassador 28 double to which nothing has been changed. What we need to find is a complete list of what was or is supposed to be there. one says that this is the place for the best help. So I guess the best question is how to start? any help or information at all would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached by reply to this post or at jsilman@idotaxes.com

Congrats and welcome to our obsession. Oh wait, you already have it! There's lots of info on the forums esp. if you want remodeling or restoration advice. Click on forum listings on the left, and start reading!

Welcome.

OK first - look at "Search" function here. Advanced Search generally works best for me. RESTORING threads aka "Full Monte" threads will be a good place to make a list of chores - along with the appropriate order to make repairs and upgrades will be a great place to start.

Next - Meet fellow Airstreamers! At the bottom of the Portal page, you will find a list of rallies, caravans, informal get togethers, etc. Even if your "new" Airstream isn't towable, or is an aluminim tent, you should definitely visit one or more. Vintage owners will be more than happy to show you their rigs and teach you the ropes. ....and give you ideas.

Third - sell everything you don't absolutely need to live - you're gonna be pouring some money into the Airstream! (Jokingly but...)

And most of all WELCOME!

Paula

BTW - I don't know exactly where Tupper Lake is, but check on Colonial Airstream - it's in NJ - near Philly, so it's pretty convenient to eastern NY. A good dealership to visit and look at "new ones" - again for ideas. There is an Airstream only park in southern NJ and another one in western PA - both great places to see other owners who are almost without exception helpful to newbies. The Reviews tab will give you reviews of those campgrounds.
