Aluminum gauge

I just bought a 1963 Safari and need to replace a panel. Since the only stupid question is the one unasked, what is the gauge of the aluminum on the trailer?

Thanks, Mike

yep. when i reskinned my 18 footer, that's what i used. i used .040 on the door and some of the panels to stiffen things up. it doesn't oil can as easily as the .032. don't use any other alloys on the skins. they'll never buff out the same.

good luck! got your clecos and rivets?

Mike-

Welcome aboard. .032 was the standard at the time. Wether you stick with this or go up a grade is fine, the big problem is always getting the material to match after buff and polish. I suggest that if you can get a small piece from your supplier first, run it through the polishing process you use on your Safari now and check the sheen and color to match. If it matches, then purchase your sheets.

Good luck and send pictures.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. This could be a long project. I'm a brunt for punishment.
I also have a 45' 1941 wooden boat.
