(Almost) Newbies with 16' Bambi

Hi everyone!

We've been wanting an Airstream for several years now and are finally realizing that dream in August. We're currently waiting for the nearby Airstream dealer to get the 2014 16' Bambis in, which are due in August. In the meantime, we've been shopping for our tow vehicle (we just settled on a Honda Ridgeline) and will be getting some other needed supplies.

We might not be regulars on this forum but I'm sure you'll see us pop in from time to time. As much as we've tried to prepare, we know that there will still be questions that we need answering.

We do have a blog where we've posted about our previous travels and adventures, and of course we'll be posting about our Airstream adventures as well. If anyone is interested, you can find us at Rambling Vegans.

Looking forward to everything and we're so thankful for these forums. They're such a wonderful resource!

Congrats on the upcoming trailer and the new Ridgeline. I think you'll enjoy both. We've also been heading towards veganism, so happy to hear about your success there.

One thing to consider: getting a used 16' Bambi CCD gets you dual panoramic windows, a no-longer available feature which makes for quite an unique-feeling trailer. (Of course, there's unlikely to be a warranty, and it would be a hunt to find one...but if you're going to keep it a long time...)

All the best
Tom

good luck! the 16' and ridgeline make a great combo! (that's our pair!) It holds just enough stuff for us (we don't have a dog). we're getting ready for our longest trip soon - 4 days with hook up then the following 6 nights with nothing! We did get an extra "waste wagon" and a 6 gallon water container. We're psyched!

This will be the first time putting the rocketbox on the roof to hold more stuff. We're taking the bikes, which will go in the bed along with the generator, extra cooler, a few big rubbermaid boxes with solar gear and other stuff.

As for towing, we've gone up to 10K with no problem and on very winding roads, too. No problem. we've towed in sleet/rain and, again, no problem.

The biggest problem is the time it takes to get gas...EVERYONE walks over and starts asking questions!! One time we had a guy and his wife get out of their Bentley and offer the trade! - No WAY! They asked to see inside and couldn't say enough about how excited it made them! The best thing is that it fits into small little campgrounds.

Btw, we like not having pano windows in the bed area. It stays nice and dark when the sun comes up at 5:30! We actually keep a room darkener/sun screen between the window and the curtain for more darkness. (it slides right around the bend of the wall to open!).This trip we are also going to keep the dinette down and make it a lounge area - hoping that we will be eating outside most of the time. We did buy bed trays for a surface if we need it.

Have a great time getting ready! Can't wait to see what the 2014 brings!

B

Thanks so much, everyone!

We have considered getting a used one, but like B said, we like that there isn't as much light coming into the bed space.

B- have fun on your trip!!
