Also, do I understand correctly that you are a traveling restuarant business? Sounds like a terrific way to tour the country. Any restrictions for food service businesses on wheels in France?

Drool!
Whoever has been in France must have noticed The street vendors. On any given days, you can buy crêpes, waffles, covered in Nutella and/orwhipped cream, and/or icing sugar, on street corners. There should be a book written on street vendor's foods alone!
Ham-on the bone with braised endives, toasted chestnuts are still alive in my dreams. You can still buy a fresh farm chicken at an open air market. Raw milk cheese! Here in north-america we have to sterilise everything and we are scared of everything!
So what do you do with your rolling kitchen, Jean-Luc? Do You go to street fairs or stay in the same spot with regulars?

well I have many questions to reply!
- about guitars:
I play blues and country, because I'm crazy about american music .the music in your country sounds "enormous" to my french ears...
- about campgrounds on the seaside:
I don't have any place to recommend ,because I prefer the campgrounds in the mountains during the good season...
- about my airstream and my job:
I work with my excella , it's a rolling restaurant called "airstream café",I work on events like festivals or anyplace people are hungry!
-about french regulations:
you need a "clean tool"; I mean that if you propose food you must have refrigerators; hot water.....
everything in good condition of course
-about street vendors and market places:
yes you can buy food in the street or on market places
the nice season for markets is beginning here, the vegetables and the fruits are very tasty and the place is full of colors and smells...
not to forget cheese, sausages, smoked ham, roasted chicken or spicy olives..

I went to the US a few years ago and something was missing to my french way of living:
I was on my way to baton rouge and I see a signal : city center
I follow it and I never found the city center for : there was none!!
the only way to buy food was the mall and I ve been astonished by the color of your fruits and vegetable..
I think that everything for sale is so secure ;so calibrated; so low fat,or so frozen!
I still love your country but you must fight for lively city centers and farm food everywhere!
it's the price for happiness

Organic and/or farm markets are popping up everywhere, now, but mostly you have to know where and what day. I understand in France there is a "place du marché" where you can find fresh food everyday near the centre of town.
More and more people want to escape the sterilized, impersonal mega malls and actually talk to the person who is growing what they eat.
I love your Airstream café and would love to visit! What is your specialty?

that is funny about trying to find the center of baton rouge.
I know what you mean though. but there is no one typical american city. they vary greatly. some have thriving downtown areas w/ sidewalk cafes and festivals. others seem to center around walmart....
in the past two yrs I've been lucky enough to live in santa cruz, ca and austin, tx. both have fantastic gastronomic offerings. several farmer's markets and usually centered around organic items. also both are known to be quite open minded and artist friendly.
I have been to baton rouge. I was 18 and thought that the center was somewhere around that keg party on campus.
I often find that when I talk to my foreign friends and their american experience. they often assume that since they've seen (input any one city here) they know what america is like. yet I can attest that the local flavor does change with distance and it's a big country.

oh, I almost forgot!
while we're talking about french street food...
I spent a few days in paris some yrs back. I really lov getting my food on the street when I travel. I especially liked the
crepe with nutella and banana
croque monsieur (sp?) toast w/ melted chese, ham and sliced toms
and pate' on baguette.
also had my fill of moules au frites (mussels and fries)
forgive my poor french as I don't speak it.

I hope you will forgive my last post;of course your country is a big country full of different people ,I was just ( french are always complaining) trying to talk about one experience that happened to me.
I think baton rouge in our imagination has something magic, and I didn't find what I expected....

Think nothing of it. We know what you were getting at. As fuegos100 mentioned there really isnt a "typical American city". It really varies alot as you move to different regions of the country.
Great truck and trailer set up you have there jean luc, looks wonderful.

Yes, but there are typical american Wal Marts!!!! Just kidding!
We can find both. The big, aseptic artificially colored food marts, and the Farm markets. The latter is a little more work to find, that's all.

Van, I hear ya. I never shop there. Although when I am in the U.S. and see a Target I rush there like there was no tomorrow.... how hypocrit is that
The sad part is, when I will travel through north america with a 30' trailer I will be very tempted to stop in one of those big mega mart places to buy food because of parking. I know, it's a pathetic excuse but let's be honest, I won't be driving through dense, crowded downtowns to try to find organic food. Hopefully there will be a lot of cool roadside farmstands to get good, honest food and keep the "toxic shopping" to a minimum.
P.S. Hello to Chalcedon in BC! Un beau bonjour!

Bonjour Jean-Luc,
hope you had a nice trip to the pyrenees, did you visit Perry??
Here is what I did...
I called ZipDee as they had no email at that time, but now they have... info@zipdeeinc.com and told them which year and which length our trailer is. They gave me the exact dimensions and price without shipping, maybe they can help you with a shipping quote to France, if not you need someone who ships it for you...
A friend of our family offered us some help as he ships parts in big Containers from Germany to the US and back, so maybe there is a company in your near that might have some extra space for your small but long package...
Another way offered to me is to put it into an Airstream Trailer that is shipped from the US to Europe, big advantage is that the parts probably wouldn´t have to clear customs in Europe as they are in the trailer and look like they belong to it...
I think Remco from the Netherlands is looking for a 31'footer, ask him if he would put it into his trailer if he buys one in the US or post a requst on the forums...
If you are looking for used parts CherokeeRV might be a good place, but I would be too afraid that some parts are missing or the the Awning is not working properly whe used...
Good luck!
Bjoern

Was it you I've met on Bordeaux motorway, on August , the 11 th ?
I was with my complate rig ( A/S + blue F150 + Harley ) and I think I've recognised your truck with an A/S .
