Airstream Newbie

I joined the AS Forum after verbally accepting a written quote from an Airstream Dealer for a used 22' 2005 Safari. I had gotten written confirmation of what would be included such as new battery, full LPG, schooling, etc. including confirmation that they would not go any lower on price. When I got the final purchase agreement, the price had increased by $4,000. The saleman claims he quoted the wrong price. Has this happened to anyone else?

In any case, needless to say, we are still in the market for an excellent condition, late model 22' to 25' AS travel trailer.

Anyone have any suggestions?

It's clear to me that your salesman is full of hooeey!

I'd check for trailers here in the clasifieds, RVTrader online, Craigs list, the newspaper and every time you see one you like somwhere just stop and ask.

Check other dealership websites too. Not all dealers are jerks and some will deliver. I think Colonial would deliver. Don't hold me to that but see if they have what you want and if so ask them.

Good luck in your hunt.

bait and switch

Classic bait and switch. They should honor their written offer. Good for you in using your feet to quietly walk out on them.
Thanks,
dik

hi lee and welcome to the forums....

what dealer?

we all need to know about this shop.

keep looking the right unit and price will happen!

these thinks aren't rare or priceless and you'll find a better a/s soon.

site un seen, online, first time buying, used transactions are very tricky.

many here can help you with the buying process.

cheers

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

You did the right thing to walk on a phony deal like that. Some dealers think that they can do stuff like that to people. I would report this incident to local Better Business Bureau just to screw with this guy and warn others.

That has happened to me with a car dealer. Get away from that place fast and tell all your friends to stay away.

I have delayed replying until I had the opportunity to hand deliver a copy of the written quote to the dealer. Talking to the salesman at Pat Clark Custom Haulers and Trailers in Las Vegas, he insists that it was an honest mistake. It seems that his price work up including $500 for PDI, schooling, T-pack, overnight at the Oasis, full LPG and 18% markup comes to $4,000 more than the price written on the quote. Unfortunately for me the difference took the used AS from "expensive" to "not worth it".

Live and learn! One good thing is that this has convinced us that we should probably go to a 25 foot AS with a full queen sized bed. I think that means either a 25 FB or 25 SS model. If anyone knows of a good late model 25 FB or SS, please let us know.

Definitely keep an eye on the classifieds here. Sorry to hear about the interaction with the dealer, but glad you now have the opportunity to find the perfect trailer for you!
