This post is going to be part introduction and part a request for advice. It starts with my grandparents who were small town farmers. During the winter my grandfather sold Christmas trees to bring in extra money. He needed a place to stay while he was in the mountains cutting down the trees and decided to purchase a used
1957 22' Flying Cloud. That was probably close to 50 years ago. My mom grew up going camping in the trailer and then later my siblings and I spent time staying in it as well. I have fond memories of being in that trailer during summers at the county fair. Well, that trailer has been parked on my grandmother's farm, slightly forgotten, for many years. We went to visit 3 years ago and I mentioned to my grandmother how much I adore that trailer and would love to renovate it and she graciously and generously offered me the title. I'm just thrilled and honored to own such a special piece of our family's history.
For the last 3 years we've been dreaming about how to get the trailer from California to our home in Texas. We have two little ones and my husband hasn't been able to take off work to drive out and back. So I think we've just about decided to pull the trigger and pay for it to be towed. We're taking a trip in July to visit my grandmother and plan to spend time inspecting the trailer and possibly doing a little work on it. So here's the request for advice - where should we start with getting it in shape to be towed? What should we look for? And any advice for hiring someone to tow?
Thank you all! I'll share some photos when I figure out how!
