A home away from home

I am a physician that has spent the last 5 years commuting from San Diego to Los Angeles, 5 days a week. For the last year and a half, I have been on call 24-7 (even when on vacation). With 10-12 hour days and 4 hours of driving, 5 hours of sleep a night was a good night. I finally begged for an Airstream to park up north in a trailer park. My husband said yes! So I am now the proud owner of a 1985 Sovereign with full wrap windows in the front and back, and pleanty of closet space. I didn't want a dinette, and found one with a sofa in the front and 2 twin beds in the back. My dream remodel is to replace all the cabinetry with Birdseye Maple thermofoil; in the meantime, I am putting in linoleum and miniblinds.

i had a similar commute in the early 90s

seattle to portland basically.

and convinced the medical facility to install rv hookups

so i could 'full time' in the a/s 4-5 days a week,

sleep/eat in my own pad and walk to work.

My gal works the night shifts, 3 nights a week and flips her sleeping schedule
180 degrees, 3 times a week. She insists that she can get by on four hours sleep. I worry about her but she is an RN and I will always lose in a discussion concerning health, because basically, I am an idiot compared to her. True story. Anyway I got tired while reading your post and I am going to go take a nap. Good luck with your Sleepstream.

Birdseye maple thermofoil - well, the real stuff is really expensive, so they photograph it and apply it like formica to cabinet doors. You can also get a roll of the stuff, which can be applied to the verical dividers, etc.

My first "remodel" will be to replace the worn oak doors with laminate doors in antique white satin, replace the 22 year-old carpet with linoleum (see the Ocean Breeze ( 2007-8 model)), and apply copper-look panels over the vertical room dividers (www.acpideas.com), and copper miniblinds (3-day Blinds). I will be sewing my own teal silk-look thermal curtains (tabs available on-line or Camping World). The colors will be copper, chocolate brown (sofa cover and bedspreads) and teal (pillows, curtains).

Later, when I am ready, then the entire remodel using birdseye maple laminate will begin - that should be some fun eh?

I ran out of funds to finish my overhaul. I still have the flooring and curtains to do. Those in the know, advised me to redo the tires, brakes, bearings, and all safety issues first. That was good advice for me because I travel often.
It is nice to be focused on projects that you can actually see the improvement. Check out my kitchen. I am going for a 50s diner theme.
