'72 Sovereign

Fulfilling a long time dream and will be picking up 1972 airstream sovereign very soon. It is a complete rehab job. Buying it for $2500 and wanted to know if moving bathroom to center and bedroom to rear is possible. Does that price sound reasonable. How much should I expect to spend to get it looking brand new assuming skin is good and windows are all ok. I'm assuming all else will need to be redone frame subfloor axles etc.

Okay so I am taking it that this is a sight unseen purchase and we have no pictures? It would be much easier to tell you what a great deal that you got with pictures! Sounds good but only sounds good.

If it needs new subfloor it dosent sound like a good deal. They are common and unless its camping ready or close to it, pass if you want a trailer that's a total rehab. All depends on condition.

I also have a 72 Sovereign, if the trailer is in fair shape ant the frame is serviceable I would say 2,500 is a fair deal.

I reconfigured mine extensively, by adopting a "studio" concept, i.e. No separate bedroom. But left it rear bath.

I have about 20 K cash in it to date and a lot of my labor.

There is a notion here among many that Sovereigns aren't really good candidates for fixing up, but really they are about the same as other models only longer.

I like the extra space myself...

There will be those who may disagree, but from what I can see the price looks pretty good to me,,,

Providing you are prepared to refit/replace everything inside the trailer.

Do what you can to see that the frame isn't rusted away, that would be a serious issue.

I have bought A 72 and a 75 in the last year and a half, overall both frames were good, but I replaced the last four feet of frame on the 72. Not a big deal because the back of the trailer had to be fixed up anyway because of leaking fixtures, pipes, and shell/window leaks and the damage they caused.

If I'm gutting it anyway, is it possible to put the bathroom in the middle rather than the rear?

J. Looks like you did a really great job. I hadn't thought of a studio type layout. Very nice. Thanks for your encouragement. Picked her up Tuesday and I started a new thread called Paulie in the 72 sovereign forum.
