72 Land Yacht Owners

Howdy!
We just a bought a 1972 Airstream Land Yacht that is in really great shape, but we want to really clean it up and "see the world"...or just parts of Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. We took it out for the first time this past weekend, and she towed great, slept well, but we need to fix the stove, dumping valve, forward roof vent, and some electrical..oh well! We are in Chandler Arizona, and are VERY excited to be Airstreamers!

"Land Yacht" is a term that applies to all 72 models. Do you have a Globetrotter 21', Safari 23', Tradewind 25', Overlander27', Ambassador 29', or Sovereign 31'?

Hope to meet up with you on the road or stop by and say howdy if you are near Estancia

Land Yacht

I am a new owner of a 72 Sovereign. Other people told me AS over a certain size are considered Land Yachts and mine being 31' is a Land Yacht. The metal label on my AS has Sovereign Land Yacht. Thanks for explaining the various AS types.

congratulations

Welcome to the forums. You'll find a lot of good stuff here.

I also have a 72 tradewind 25'. I've had it for almost 2 years now and haven't actually taken it out on a trip yet. I completely gutted it and I'm in the process of putting it back together. I guess you could say I'm "enjoying" it so far. Can't wait til I get it finished.

good luck and have fun.

Yes but, not exactly. "Land Yacht" did not exist until 1969. To obfuscate things further a "International Land Yacht" came on the scene for 1969 to 1976 for the longer models. Then they went back to being just the name of the model associated with the length. Then in the late 80's the model names were dropped and ASs were all called Land Yachts with different lengths including a 5th wheel. Then starting in 96 the only Land Yacht were MoHos. Got it? I'm not sure if I do (corrections please).
