67 Swaying Safari

Hey there, I'm Mike, a teacher up here in sundrenched Seattle. I am almost ready to head down the the Oregon Rally on the 28th. I have one dilemna left to solve. I have a fairly new equalizer hitch, Drawtite, but on my 67 Safari, I have an older set of hook-up brackets that cinch the sway bars to the tongue of the trailer. They are a set of brackets with chains and there is a gizmo that goes towards the front of the hitch so it looks like a mini set of bars underneath the trailer tongue.

After struggling for an hour, I was not able to hook my new sway bars to the old sway brackets. Any word of wisdom out there?/

That sounds like a Reese Dual Cam setup. See http://rvinfo1.tripod.com/ for an installation guide. TheDieselStop.Com Forums: Help with Reese Dual Cam looks like it might be on this issue.

Unless you have instability problems towing your trailer, you really don't need sway control. And you shouldn't have such problems with your Safari if you have a decent tow vehicle with good tires and proper loading.

I think your WD setup is one type (the Drawtite), and the "gizmo" is for a Reese setup. If you need sway control (and it doesn't hurt to have it... I'd use it) you can buy a friction sway control device (Evergreen RV in Shoreline should be close by) and install it fairly quickly. Do you have an "extra" small ball on the hitch head (should be on the passenger side of the hitch head next to the big hitch)?

everyone for your helpful advice. I ended up going to Evergreen Rv yesterday and they said the same things you did. I have two different set-ups. After searching unsuccessfully for the adaptor bracket for the drawtite to the dual cam, I decided to take off the dual cam , and just use the brackets for my sway bars. I just finished now 2 pm on Sat as a matter of fact.
