Hello Everyone!
Just popping in to introduce myself. My partner (30m) and myself (31f) are new to the scene, and still
very carefully shopping. Both of us come with useful skills for living off-grid, and in light of current world events and being tired of throwing our money at slumlords, we've decided to detach ourselves from the every-day grind and join the Airstream family.
As it stands we live in less than 300sqft with a bathroom tinier than in most Airstreams and pay more for rent to live in a "nothing" town, than what we could pay for a loan for a brand new Airstream (budgeting both lifestyles, they came out to cost about the same). That being said, we like the idea of not paying any loans and buying an older trailer so that we can save our money and put it towards either travelling, or spoiling ourselves with the occasional nice campground.
We are looking at wanting to spend most our time Boondocking and are budgeting to fit our Airstream with a full solar setup, as well as weighing the pro's and con's of a composting toilet vs a tank we need to empty. (how long would that last, before it needs to be emptied, with 2 people?)
I am lucky enough to work from home for a company that is also willing to take on my partner so that both of us can work full time and travel. All we need is enough juice to power an air-modem and our laptops, and we are set to get paid to live wherever our hearts take us.
As for those skills... I grew up on a sustainable homestead, fixing cars, tending animals, repairing the house with my father, and sewing, cooking, and growing veg with my mother. My partner is a welder/fabricator with experience working with aluminum (he has worked on new aircraft)and steel, and can make just about anything. We both have the ability to hunt (him large game, me small) and both of us are avid fishermen. Oh yeah, and on top of all that, we are both "prepper" types
So we hope to use our skills to take to the road and live a more appropriate lifestyle that fits our natures. We have 2 cats, and depending on advice from all of you, potentially a dog. Being in Canada and intending on travelling in the northern territories and boondocking in the wilderness, having a dog as an alarm and for safety seems important.
Anyway, enough chatter from me. I hear you guys are a friendly bunch and we are looking forward to joining the Airstream family and possibly getting to know some of you! So... Hello!
