1st Airstream: Ď92 Excella 25í

Hello. As of today, Iím the proud owner of a 1992 Excella 25í. Number one priority is to repair what appears to be a door that came open on the PO at highway speed. The window is gone and the bottom of the door is sprung out about 0.5Ē. I would love some advice on fixing the problem. If it isnít an easy fix, maybe some suggestions on where to get it done in Southern or Central California.

I guess I should introduce myself before I start asking for help. My name is Joey, and my wife & I are both in public education. So, we have all of June, all of July, and half of August off work (and no money with which to do anything). We also have two little ones ages 2 & 1 and a beautiful Labrador with whom we plan to get out and see as much of this country as possible. We’ve been looking/researching the purchase of our first travel trailer for about a year when we found this ‘92 Excella. We loved the rear twin beds for the kids as they grow. We also loved the middle bathroom and north-south bedrooms. The goucho had been removed along with the flooring by the previous owner, so it’s currently set up for ballroom dancing in the front. We plan to build a wrap around convertible dining/sleeping area once we get this door and window repaired as neither of us has any interest in ballroom dancing.

Hello from Colorado: Your new Excella is a perfect size for travel adventures. Why Airstream kept the "suicide" door is anyone's guess. I think it has something to do with awning interference, or it's because they always built them that way. Anyway, many of us have had our doors come loose and fly open while on the highway, including me. Always use the deadbolt.

The "sprung" door is a pretty easy fix. The broken window will need replaced. There are several threads on fixing bent doors and even Youtube.

Jump in these forums and learn all about your new trailer and how to use it.
