1975 31' Sovereign...and snakes in Richmond, Texas

Hello!

My boyfriend and I have recently decided to start renovating his dad's 1975 31' Sovereign. It has been sitting in a field untouched for the last 20 years or so.

When we got it back there were several shedded snake skins. We let it sit for a few weeks before either of us were brave enough to venture inside!

It looks pretty much like a time capsule from 1975. Now we're taking the first steps of assessing what we have to work with. We want to do a complete overhaul for modern technology but retain the original integrity. The balance that I'm sure a lot of people initially set out to achieve.

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know some fellow Airstreamers!

-Kristin

Welcome to the forums! Looks like you have a beautiful Airstream. Great pano picture of the interior!

The snakes are long gone if you've let the trailer sit in the Texas summer sun for a while. They can't tolerate the high temperatures.

I'll repeat the usual advice of first make sure all leaks are sealed, then check the floor for soft spots. What you'll find may depend a lot on which part of the state that ranch is in. If it's out in the dry country, that's good for preserving Airstreams.

The forums are a great place for information. Please keep us informed on your progress.

Welcome to the forums! The great thing about having a snake infestation is that they keep the normal mouse infestation to a reasonable level.

Good luck!

Wow, you've discovered a nice "time Capsule". Have fun restoring it. It looks to be in good shape and all original.

Now that is one unique method of natural mouse control! Now what to do with the fat snakes? Welcome and keep taking the pictures because they are a great reference so take them like you are a csi!
