Thumbs up 1973 sovereign 31'

Greetings!!

My husband and I purchased our sovereign back in May and are about to began renovations on it next week. We also have a 1985 E250 Ford diesel 11 passenger van for towing. We have a 13 month old daughter and our plan is to live in the airstream full time for the next 3-5 years.

We plan on spending time between 4 different places: Colorado , Minnesota, California, and Washington.

We are doing a complete renovation which will include subbing out the electrical and plumbing to the professionals and then using my Father who is a design builder for the rest of the work.

We've read many threads and have found this site the most helpful to us. Our biggest hurdle is figuring out how to make the airstream functional in really really cold weather. Any brainstorms or ideas or specific products we should use would be more than appreciated...remember that we are starting over with a blank slate so the sky is the limit....well kind of!!

Look forward to reading more threads and posting more questions as we move forward with the project. If anyone is interested in following our journey you can check out my blog: www.theoppositeway.org

Cheers!
Rachel

I have a couple pictures as we cleaned up the inside the best we could so we wouldn't be grossed out as we starting taking the inside out. I did find one dead mouse in the bottom of the toliet and yes - I totally screamed! We aren't as far along as we thought we would be right now but we are still very excited and committed to the project. We got some upper cabinets removed and the twin bunks out, the front couch is gone, carpet is up. Still have the rear bath and kitchen area to disassemble.

Keep taking the pictures as you go for references and when you get to the stopping point check your pictures to make sure that you have everything you need. I missed a few and am lucky that others on the forum with 66 caravels took some. Great job so far.

Thanks guys! I have a bunch more photos on my main camera for future reference. Good reminder that one cannot take enough photos. It's just pixels eh?!! Anyways - traveling for the next two weeks then hope to get back at it after that.

So after a long vaca from our renovations we are back in full force. We are almost done with the removal of all the interior walls, dividers, and appliances. It's amazing how carefully thought out the designers were when they put this beauty together back in 1973. We just found the sliding board under the stove that gives your more work space in the kitchen - genius!! We will hopefully finish up taking apart the rear bath and dealing with getting the kitchen area disconnected from all the pipes and hoses. Only one really good photo from today, hopefully more tomorrow.
