A few months ago my wife and I purchased a 1971
Sovereign 31'. Our plan is to do a major "renovation" rather than a total "restoration". This particular Airstream seemed like a good choice because everything was there, and the frame appears to be in good shape. All of the appliances work, as does the 110v and
12v electrical. We did go ahead and purchase a new air conditioner. We are fortunate to have a brand new 25x50' warehouse space to work on our new project.
We have already replaced the old Univolt with a new Power Max converter, and have gutted the bathroom. We found floor rot in one corner of the bathroom, but that's another story.
We both have worked as nurses for many years, but have lots of experience building stuff. We have built an aluminum airplane (Sonex) from just a set of plans. Yes, a REAL airplane. We've also built several small teardrop campers. I am a pretty good welder and fabricated the frames for these trailers myself. We also were full-time RV dwellers for 3 years and towed our trailer all of the way from Texas to Alaska.
We're excited to be working on our very own Airstream. We've always thought they were extremely cool. Looking forward to getting to know folks on this forum.
