1971 Chevy 1/2 Ton & Airstream

I'm in the process of remodeling a 1971 Chevy 1/2 Ton and was wondering which model of airstream would work best. Thanks, have an awesome day!

Nice project! Do you have details on the engine, transmission and rear end?

Thanks so much for the quick response! I will have to speak with my mechanic but at least I know the minimum is 4,000. I really appreciate your assistance! Have an awesome day!

Post pictures of your progress. Those early Chevys are pretty neat. One day, I might tackle one.

I had a 1970 Chevy CST-10 - the lines in that truck!!! Gorgeous!!

I'm thinking (without a ton of evidence) you're looking at either an older/lighter trailer or a modern Bambi. I don't believe they could tow then what they can now. But I could totally be wrong. Gee, that's helpful 😳

I just love the look of that series!!

Virtually any of the airstreams could be pulled with a half ton, though i would not be interested in doing so, they would. I just prefer a bit more weight and power, so i do the 3/4 ton for our 27 International. However, is your intentions are somewhere around the 16 ft bambi (vintage i would assume) dude get a vintage tow vehicle as well, the restored 71 checy, go for it and have fun doing it too

Our first tow vehicle was a '69 Chevy C10 short wheel base, 350 engine, standard transmission, but we only towed a small trailer with it. It was an old ranch truck with all the typical dents, and rust. I remember being so proud when I traded it for a brand new '73 Chevy with a 305 engine, standard trans. That turned out to be a big mistake because the 305 was gutless.

1967 t0 1972 GM Truck

'67 to '72 Chevrolet and GMC, weighing around 4000#, the same truck with different grill-work. Half Ton could be ordered with leaf or coil rear springs, and a myriad of options...

Should be able to build one to tow about any Airstream of same vintage, but a Safari or Globe Trotter would be the sweet spot for me.

My highest priority is enjoying the journey safely with as many amenities as possible but the last thing I want to worry about being stressed out over the weight of the trailer while traveling through the rockies. I don't want to under or over purchase but the good thing is the truck has another year before it is completed, so I plenty of time to perform additional research. It looks like I need to have 4.11 rear axle, transmission cooler, oil cooler, heavy duty shocks at the minimum installed. Thanks everyone for the responses and please feel free to provide any further suggestions or advice.
