why new 34' so heavy- 2007 Classic?
looked up the weight on an 1983 34' excella- 5500lbs dry
2007 34' classic is listed at 7858lbs UBW
if 'dry' and 'UBW' mean the same- why is there such a huge difference in weight?

The new coaches are made using heavier materials. Instead of lightweight vinyl and thin veneer plywood, they are using oak panels inside. Also, the newer trailers have more factory-installed equipment, more stuff means more weight. Also, the trailer is 6" wider than the '83. 6" x 34'= more weight.

Frames are heavier to accomodate more weight in "stuff". Folks are getting corian-style countertops... tanks are larger... everything is bigger and heavier in them. They're very elegant... and folks love them. They're just not light weight.

Roger's right....bigger frame to carry lots of stuff!
Once I retire or win the lottery, I will get a nice monster size Classic 34' and an F-250 to tow it with. U
ltra comfort for your travels, not having to dump or fill tanks every day (Like me now). Room for everything you have to take with you.
Ya know....all that jazz.

Hey Steve, you will enjoy retirement. The check that is, I'm still working so I can pay for my used 34' and new F250. I guess if I sold the house I could quit my day job, but then I don't think the wife and kids would be too happy

What everyone has said is right on. In addition, the GVWR is higher too, but that is mostly for NCC. You may or may not use all your NCC, so you may never reach full GVWR.

Being only 30...I have PLENTY of time before I can think about retirement!
