Here is the ultimate question. Does anyone feel $65,000 is too much to pay for a low miles truly excellent condition 2007 Classic Limited 34'? It has dual airs, 50 amp service plus other upgrades.

As a reference I got a 93 34 footer for 20 grand. New rugs but otherwise original. Overall excellent condition. This was fair market value.

Is $250,000.00 too much to pay for a 1984 325 Classic once owned by Larry Hagman (although there's nothing left of Larry's interior. )

Pricing for RV's is completely subjective and conditional on condition. Will you pay a premium for a garage kept, well maintained and regularly used motorhome or trailer? Yes. Do you want to pay that premium? Unless you're very handy or have very deep pockets, yes you do. As a person who bought a Classic moho and renovated it, it's a costly and time intensive adventure. Luckily for me, my moho was being used and mechanically in great shape. The interior on the other hand....another story.

As the saying goes; "pay a little now and pay a lot later" or was that "pay a lot now and pay a little later"?

My advice is to buy in the best condition you can afford, and then some.

Well, 2007 is almost new. And it's not like you can buy a new 34' from the factory. There are probably not a lot of similar trailers available. 65k seems high to a buyer, but probably not to the seller! what are you comparing it to? Other models from 2007? Compared to a brand new 23'? If this is the best trailer you can find for the amount you're willing to spend, then maybe it's the right trailer for YOU.

If you want the trailer, and have the money, then go for it. Or try to negotiate a "fair" price whatever that may be. Look at it this way, the prior owner has worked all of the kinks out, and now you can just go camping.

If you have never owned an RV before, definitely get the new trailer. It should be the one needing the least amount of up-front work, and most work it will need will be covered by warranty. If you really feel insecure, you can also get an extended warranty.
If you have owned an RV, especially an Airstream, and feel comfortable tackling most minor projects, there is a huge initial savings from purchasing the used one. The used one is also 3' longer.

A 2007 Airstream is old enough to have undiagnosed problems. The big concern is hidden floor rot. Skylights probably need to be replaced. All Airstreams leak, unless meticulously cared for. Additionally, the newer Airstreams have some upgrades that are not available in 2007. Regardless, I would not pay $65,000 for an Airstream that is that old. Just my opinion.

The really nice feature of the new ones is that they have ducted air which makes A/C much quieter in the summer. My bet is that there are a few newer AS's out there that people have purchased with good intentions and then could not use them or decided the RV life is just not for them. I have seen some advertised through our local WBCCI chapter periodically so it might be good to let your local chapter know what you are looking for. Also dealers will get trades in that are a couple of years old on occasion which really could be worth looking at. Ideally and in a perfect world I'd personally go for new if that is a financial possibility for all the very good reasons stated above.

34's are huge! People probably figure out they can't travel with them as easily as they thought. No National Parks, and any off pavement would be asking for trouble. Unless you are a full timer or not moving it much, I would go smaller. But I don't know your situation, just my opinion.

Actually that sounds cheap for a 2017 Classic. I thought that the new classics were north of $120,000.

Unless this particular trailer has a special "hold" on you, I would suggest you spend a month or so checking the classifieds on this forum. 34s come up with some regularity. I know I have seen some 31' trailers with slides for a good deal less. It seems a bit high to me. You said it is pristine, but so are a lot of other used Airstreams. AS owners, as a rule, take really good care of their rigs. The 31' FC I bought was three years old, but, in my estimation, was better than new!

I would absolutely love to own a 34'.
They don't make them anymore.
I still think that $65,000 is a little high for a 2007.
That price might be right in line for a 2010 or 2011 limited production of 25 numbered units per year.
The price for a new Classic is an excellent price, only $10,000 more than MSRP on my 2013 Classic.

The big question to answer is:

Is the difference in money important to you? Is the new trailer a stretch financially, or no big deal to you? Everyone's finances are different, and if it's a drop in the bucket... then I might consider the brand new with a warranty.

The second question is the size... as stated, that's a dang long trailer to deal with, but maybe you're accustomed to combinations of this length in your past experience....

We have a 1990 34 ft AS &'we really like the space better than the 26 ft Argosy. We have about $18K total in ours & we had to replace tires, brakes, air conditioner, & some small items. I'd look at the classifieds here, decide what you think is fair, & make a resonable offer on the 34 ft since you like it. Be prepared though all used trailers need some work but that is okay as long as you know what is needed before you make an offer. Good luck!

Packerman, I suggest you look in the classifieds for another wide body 34 from 1996 to 2002. You can get these from 15,000 to 30,000 and there is a lot of nice ones out there. Most of these if you decide to get rid of them for whatever reason, you probably will not loose more that the tax you paid. A 65,000 2007 is whole lot different. Try before you buy. You can always upgrade. There will be plenty to come along.
