Hi - Mildred is now the newest member of our family. Thankfully, we were able to get all of the kinks worked out so we could close on her.

Now, I’m looking at weight distribution hitches. She tows great as just a bumper pull except on bad roads. I-10 in Louisiana is beyond awful!!

I want a use ProPride but can’t find one. Therefore, I’m looking at middle of the line system like Blue Ox. Can y’all please give me some more of that excellent feedback, again?

Oh yeah, we are registered for the Alumaslide in NC this fall. Click image for larger version

I used an Equalizer 1000/10000 on my Safari 25 and a 1200/12000 on my Classic 30 Slide. In either case, I never felt a push from passing or oncoming traffic or winds. I would be hard pressed to find much difference between tows. The main disadvantage with friction anti-sway is reported to be it can be less effective in rain.

I did upgrade to a ProPride, but not for observed towability. I felt like the ProPride would be better in emergency evasion maneuvers, but the main reason was the heavy stuff stayed on the trailer when I unhitched.

I still have the Equalizer. PM me if you might be interested.

Al

We're in the greater Salt Lake City area. We are the owners of a 2005 Safari 28' S/O AS. TV is a silver Dodge diesel. I believe we are the second owners of this trailer. We shall spend time touring Utah for a couple years. We're getting a plan together to explore our state and national parks, but we will spend more time in the mountains and deserts enjoying the solitude of the state. Other times I shall pull to different triathlons in the state. Here's to a great 2019. If anyone crosses our path, be sure to sit and chat for a few.

Mellie,

Big congrats and welcome to the Slide Out Society.

And looks like you have a fancy TV antenna already. The dealer could/should have advised about features.

Big congrats!

Gary

56ovalwindow,

Oh boy, hang on, yes I've checked the data and when Data Officer Tom "Stremn" gets his abacus going we can bestow and certify to 56ovalwindow hailing out of SLC are you ready:

56ovalwindow is S/OS#0100

That's right member number 100 and when the S/OS was started in Nov. 2016 it was then and still is just for fun. And a tip of the ball cap to Don and Dave as charter members and our Data Officer Tom. (Hi Wendell) Recognizing and enjoying these unique albeit now discontinued models likely never to be built again by AS, the Slide Out.

I bet we've all been told by someone in camp, never seen an AS with a slide, did you make it? nope, all factory. Any problems, not anything special etc. etc. you've heard it.

Remember pic's are always welcome and safe travels, quite neighbors, dry level sites ans spectacular views to all.

Hi Tom,

Our situation may be different from yours, but we did install Sleep Number twin beds in our Classic 30 Slideout. The twin version is uniquely suited to conversion since, at least in our 2002, there is unused space at the foot of the beds so an extended twin (1/2 of a king and a standard size) will fit if scrunched a little at the head between the curved wall and the nightstand. I did replace the plywood under the mattresses and trimmed down the nightstand top since the Sleep Numbers were 2-3 inches wider and 3" longer than the Airstream twins. Sleep Number does make a bed customized for Airstreams. It is a little hard to find and I don't remember whether it is a short queen or double. I think I searched Airstream on the Sleep Number site.

Ours hold pressure forever, so you only need shore power (or inverter) if you want to change the firmness. We were advised to lower the pressure if we climbed up much in altitude. Since we went up to 11,000 feet on the way to Salem it is a good thing Missy remembered to do that because I didn't.

We caught a great sale on the C2 beds which are on their low end. We added 2" foam toppers and with the exception of the cover fabric they are the equivalent of the P5 king we have at home. We had original mattresses in our Safari 25 and upgraded mattresses (by the original or second owner) in the Classic and never slept very well. The Sleep Numbers are great!

Hi Al & Missy,

Thanks for sharing your experience! I appreciate it. We've still got the original short queen on board. We've done the foam topper with it and that makes it tolerable with a band aid fix.

We'll have to stop by the Sleep Number store to check things out.

Happy Sliding! Brrrr, only 14F this morning..so we'll be sliding around here in NH.

Best!

2004 34’ Limited S/O Dinette

chevy2man - Wow...beauty with that red awning! Quite the stable of AS you're building there. The S/O will be a great addition!

We've noticed there are a few S/O's available around the country...saw a 2002 in MD and a 2007 in FL just this past week. So yours makes another S/O beauty on the market.

Good luck with travel and pickup!

Thanks! I’m actually buying this one and going to sell my older 1995 Excella 34’. I noticed on my profile it shows a bunch of other Airstreams that I don’t own. I tried to update but there must a glitch or something. I have a 1975 Argosy 20’ MH(project) as well. I’ve always wanted a slide out so here I am. [emoji23]

Tom, we're gonna need a bigger chart!

chevy2man,

Congrats on getting a 34' wow. Looks like you'll already know the ins and outs of taking care of an AS.

So, the ol' Hickory Stick has thumped and chevy2man you are S/OS#0101

Welcome aboard chevy2man S/OS #101, 2004 34' Classic S/O

We're glad to have you as part of the Slide-Out Group!

I had to make some adjustments on the list to for this update...left room for growth too...with the preview it seems to be ok on screen.

Here's the updated Slide-Out Members list and the Model Count as we know it today.

Thermal fuse

2007 30’; arrived at campground and slide wouldn’t extend. No sound at all when switch activated. The slide locks do work. Couldn’t find the fuse block for slide. Called JC, located fuses under sofa near master power switch. Learned they are thermal fuses, which can be replaced only by disconnecting the entire fuse block and removing it. Has anyone ever replaced this arrangement with more conventional blade or barrel fuses?

loft47,

Do you have anything to test for power? Going into fuse and out. Rather that replacing might want to try troubleshooting the power supply.

12VDC testing can be done with a multimeter or even a simple light bulb tester. The light bulb setup is actually very handy for basic power distribution testing.

Keep updating on progress.

Don't forget there is a doable but awquard manual slide out, check manual for details.

I think the last failure to extend was a switch issue IIRC.
