Maybe someone will ask Airstream Customer Service to research their computer for all the VINs of the slide outs produced. They would have to have those records in case of a recall. Having said that, my 34' SOD is listed on the factory VIN as a two axle 34', not a 3 axle. It was the first '06 built, as I told them I would not accept the trailer if it was not a 2006 on the MSO. It was built the 20th of June and delivered to me on the 3rd of July. It is one of the last built with Henschen Axles and Kodiak single piston calipers. Because it was a Friday, I did not accept it until after the July 4th weekend ,so there would be adequate time for pre-delivery inspection. I still missed a dented but pulled, upper center front panel. The dealer sluffed that one off on me for about a year before another sharp dealer noticed two extra rivets that did not belong where they pulled it out.

Once Upon a Story - In 2007 I purchased my 2004 SO from the original owner. Their story was that in 2002 they had their architect design the front desk layout which was custom builtfor them in early 2003. During the delivery from JC to Mansfield OH by a hired hauler, the AS was rear ended and totaled. In late 2003, a second AS was built for them. It was titled as a 2004 and subsequent spent its first four years in a pole barn.

Flooring ideas on slide

If you have replaced flooring on the slide part (mine is the dinette area), would love to know what you did. Pics are appreciated!

A tad more that just the flooring but it shows what I did:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f7/r...ur-142691.html

Under the carpeting is a layer of standard carpet foam placed over plywood. I removed both and placed a 1/4" layer of new dense foam under click together vinyl tile to help keep the floor from becoming too cold in winter. Because the 'benches' overlap the edge of the floor section you only need a short piece of edging to place between the benches along the front edge. The floor's front edge is bare wood that frames the lower platform.

I then replaced the rest of the carpeting with the same vinyl flooring:

Welcome to the forums! You'll find lots of great information and help here.

Based upon your question we've gotta ask as it doesn't say in your avatar profile, do you have a slide-out? Is so what year, model and size? We'll add you to the Slide Out Society.

Curious Sliding Minds want to know...

I took my 2002 slider to the mother ship at Jackson Center, and had oak floor replaced up to the bedroom, and the couch replaced with 2 lounge chairs. Love it.

looking at an '08 34 slide tomorrow... questions

Hi Folks
Judy and I are the proud owners of an '02 31 Classic and tomorrow we will be looking at a 34 Classic slide that may or may not be available for sale. Current owners are just not ready to sell it, but its going to happen sometime soon. SO....... Questions.
We have had our 31 all across Canada and well into the southern states as well as down the Baja in Mexico. We never had any concerns with getting into any spots. Some were pretty tight but we go it.
What do you think the adjustments be with the 34 slide as far as access to spots in some state, provincial or national parks, over the 31'?
I have heard of more 'tail drag' on a 34 vs the 31. Comments?
Not really concerned with the slide assembly as your posts have answered all of my questions.
Not concerned with my T.V., tire selection, hitch selection, ........ as we have all had enough of those discussions.
My main concern is access to the 'spots' that we love to go to. We rarely go to R.V. parks other than Travelers Rest in Florida. We are still 'campers"!
I appreciate any help regarding this new to us unit. We have been between a rock and a hard spot as we have been looking a t the new Classic 33 as well, but I am not ready to buy into the new tech that seems to run all of the systems on the unit. I want to keep it simple. So maybe this '08 34 slide will be the answer. Let me know your thoughts please.
Pete

Pete,

I don't have a 34 and if a 34 slide was for sale not sure I'd even step inside for fear of 34 envy.

I can't speak for its size for state parks for example.

I owned a Honda gold wing 1200 ran it for years, never drove the then newfangled gold wing 1500 flat 6 model that came out for same gotta have it logic.

Enjoy the pondering.

We do have several 34 sliders as members. Somebody should chime in.

Gary

thanks Gary

Thanks Gary.
We went to have a good look at the 34 slider today and I have to say that we are done waiting to make a decision. The current owners are close but not quite ready to sell but they are close, so we will keep our 31 until the time is right. No new 33 for us. I am blown away with the extra room with the slide. It is amazing when you think that the slide is less than two feet deep. Just amazing. So we will be patient and continue to enjoy our 31 for the next year at which time I will contact you to see if SO/S #100 is available! We gotta keep positive, don't we?

I have it winterized and stored at the AS dealer in Caldwell, Idaho which is 70 miles away, but I will try and find some pictures a while back.

Welcome to the forums and welcome to our Slide-Out Society! There's a lot of great people with great information in the group. You don't need to do anything else to register, you're in the right place!

Very neat that you've got a 2003 Safari. We thought there was only 1 of those in existence. SeeMore S/OS #003 has one too... We recently asked AirStream customer service for production numbers of S/O's. They didn't list anything for 2003 Safari's. On follow-up they indicated his probably got lumped into the 2004's. Now we've got 2.... Interesting to say the least.

Gary S/OS #001 our Grand Slider will bestow a S/OS # for you. By my calculations that should be S/OS #078, but we'll let him do the honors. I was texting with him today and they're on a grand adventure camping, so I'm not sure when we'll hear from him.

All the best!

Jim,

With pomp and confusion we award S/OS#078 to you and your 2003 Safari from the windy shore of Hartwell Lake, Sadlers Creek SP.

Tom's keeping the official registry and you're in.

And a very new member too boot. Welcome to airforums.

We have the inaugural Slide Out society campout next September. I'll get a link and post it for you. http://www.airforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=171620

We need a Keystone St member.

Gary
