Please give us a number!

Hi,
We are the lucky new travelers with Mike and Roxy Gross 2007 75th Anniversary Edition Classic Limited 30' RBQ Slide Out. Our BRN is 5157. We'd like to register but don't know if we take Mike and Roxy's number or get a new one? Their BRN is 1469.
Thanks and see some of you in Rock Springs!

"The Big Red Number' is issued by the AIRTREAM CLUB when you join. A 4 digit number is designates a club officer. Are we talking different numbers?

No, we totally realize that. We've had that number for a few years and have two trailers--the Classic and an Argosy. Just not sure how to get the Slide Out Society Registry number since I don't know where we are in line!

You're in the right place for the Slide-Out Society. Do you have a Slide-Out S/O? You're avatar says 2006 30' Classic...you should be able to select the S/O model from the "Edit Your Details" section of your "Control Panel".

Great! Now we just need Gary S/OS #001 to stop by and use the hickory stick to get you an official S/OS #...

I'm sure he'll be Sliding right on over soon.

davidbrandon,

Welcome to the Slide Out Society and greetings from SC to Texas. Ya picked a slick trailer in an '07 I should know I own an '07 too.

Hollar if you have any questions, and your dues check gets deposited today. So add your S/OS#126 (Hickory stick, thump thump) to your signature if you wish and pretty sure we have another Slider about 45 min north of you folks.

Safe travels,

Gary

S/so 126

Thank you Gary! And we have another Slider right here at the North Texas Airstream Community--John and Rita Green have a 34' but they may not be part of S/SO. Are there any meet-ups at Rock Springs?

Dues check?

What’s the charges for? Do everyone have to pay?

nwdave,

There are no charges or dues, no one has ever paid. It's sorta one of my attempts at humor, much like my Hickory Stick fill in for an official "gavel"

But I do have a Hickory Stick I tried to make as a walking stick in my BSA SM days, but it's TOO heavy!

All go forth, enjoy your Slider and safe travels.

Gary

Leak over dinette table

Good morning friends,
We have developed a leak through the light fixture in our 2007 30' Classic Limited RBQ SO (#126). Coming back through Montana on a rough stretch of road, the mini chandelier became unmounted. We couldn't remount it because the screws were rusted and there didn't seem to be anything (beyond the vinyl) to screw it back into, so we clipped the wires and stowed the light. Back home in Hillsboro, TX now, as we were unpacking and cleaning up for the next trip, we noticed a puddle of water on the table just below the opening for the light. We have had no rain over the last week so it can't be rainwater. The only source we can think of for the water would be the AC condensate line, which drains just over the wheel well (driver's side). Has anyone experienced a leak like this or do you have any idea what might be going on?
Thanks!
David and Anna

No doubt it's the AC drain. You can try and blow it out or just run a new line the outside. Either way, it's a PITA.

How would the water cross the gap between the body of the trailer where the AC is to the slideout?

That's a question we had also. But I'm not sure how it could be from an outside source either since we are in Texas where rain has been sadly missing for a while...

Best guess, years of condensation of outside humidity while AC running cooling off the inner skin.

Or inside humidity in winter condensing on the outside skin.

Or rain on the top of the slide seeping through seams.

Slide-Out Society - Loss of our Founding Member

Slide-Out Society - Loss of our Founding Member - Gary GCinSC2 S/OS #001

I'm so sad to say my good friend Gary GCinSC2 passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 30, 2023.

He was intelligent, caring and helpful to everyone he came in contact with. His passions included Family, Airstreaming, Camp Fires, Cast-Iron Cooking, and Coleman Lanterns and Stoves. His background was in the Automotive Industry retiring from a clutch manufacturer. Nothing mechanical was too technical. He enjoyed troubleshooting mechanical problems and coming up with solutions for those in need.

Gary would walk around rally's with his 4 foot breaker bar inspecting, fixing and offering advice on hitch balls and other ailments affecting our Airstream Trailers. If someone had a problem, the word would always be "Ask Gary". He attended many, many Alumalina rallies, the last in 2022 where he did presentations on Brakes and Dexter Never-Lube Bearings. His postings here in the forum offer guidance on a variety of topics that he'd research and work on first hand before offering advice. That way he could speak with knowledge and authority because he'd done it himself.

Proud of his home state of "Ohio" he always flew his flags in front of the trailer that became conversation starters. Although he was never in the military, He was a patriot at heart and always supported veterans and those who served in our nations armed forces. I can remember so many times he paid for a meal or a small repair because "the guy" was wearing a Veterans Hat. It was just his nature to support the military even though he never met "the guy" before.

As the story goes, sitting around "Camp Fire" as he liked to call it, after a few fingers of some variety of a beverage distilled only in Kentucky, he proposed the idea of starting a Slide-Out Owners Group. One thing led to another and the Slide-Out Society S/OS was born in November of 2016. Gary, Don and Dave thought they'd get a dozen or so owners in the group. Today we're at 126 Slide-Out Owners. It doesn't cost anything, you just gotta have a Airstream Trailer with a Slide-Out. No dues or fees, no rules, just have fun with your Slide-Out (S/O).

We first met Gary at Alumalina in 2017 at Palmetto Cove, SC. Being new S/O owners and travelers we tested the waters at a rally. I remember we were sitting down to have lunch after getting parked over in the corner on the edge of rally site. We saw this couple looking around our trailer checking things out. Who's that? What are they doing, we said to one another. Turns out it was Gary and Linda. We'd posted back and forth on the forum but never met face to face. To make a great story short we met lifelong friends. Since then we've spent many hours over "Camp Fire", enjoyed many miles together, and created lot's of terrific memories.

Although he's left the life that we know, this past weekend they were blessed with two new grand babies. Parker (#5) on Friday and Rose (#6) on Sunday. His text to me on Sunday was "second one arrived a few minutes ago...details later". He called me Monday morning at 0715 on his way to work at the Stihl Chain Saw shop. He'd picked up a part-time job working on chain saws to keep himself busy in retirement. He loved the challenge of fixing things. We only got to talk for a minute, because I had my hands full with work on my side. We agreed to catch up later. Little did I know that would be the last time I was able to speak with him.

Gary never looked to be in the spotlight, but he was a leader. Some folks just have that ability and that was Gary. I spoke with Don S/OS #002 and Dave S/OS #003 today and volunteered to tell this story. I recommended that we retire Gary's S/OS #001 in honor of founding the Slide-Out Society Group.

S/OS #001 will ALWAYS be Gary

At your next "Camp Fire" or your next event, pour a few fingers of that Kentucky Distilled beverage of choice, give a nod and raise your glass in honor and memory of Gary S/OS #001. You might not see him, but He's right there with us enjoying "Camp Fire", sipping his drink, and basking in the glow of his "Coleman lantern".
