Heat wave

Camping at Grayton Beach State Park this week and it is hot. I mean tropical hot. Our single 15000 BTU is keeping the unit at a comfortable 75 degrees due in my opinion to the full awning package.Click image for larger version

I wonder if solar panels shading the roof also helps.

I had a 1967 Land Rover Safari model that had a false roof (a layer of aluminum spaced a couple of inches over the real roof) that worked well. Solar panels must do the same thing, although they only cover a portion of the roof.

I hadn’t thought about solar panels as insulators. I have five panels on the roof. Add all the vent covers and AC and there is a lot of protection.

Hi

The gotcha is that whatever you put on the roof is replacing a nice reflective surface. Maybe the new stuff absorbs heat from the sun better than what was there ..... Maybe it blocks that breeze (what breeze????) that would have cooled the roof.

Lots of in's and outs ....
