Solar is great to keep the batteries fully charged while stored, as well as helping to bring them back up if you had to use the furnace while not plugged into shore power.
It's great for keeping up with low draw lighting, and keeping the 12 v stuff (like the circuit board on the fridge) energized while boondocking.
Then again, a Honda Eu1000 will do the same, day or night, rain or shine, for less money. It all depends on how power-independent you want to be.

Classic vs Safari SE with LS option? Weight difference is pretty significant as is price. My wife LOVES the SE interior.

As for solar, my wife insisted we get it. We boondock a lot and have constantly run out of battery. We went through 3 batteries in 2 seasons trying to find one big enough to get us through 3 days of boondocking. We only use TV option when on shore power and I wish sometimes we didn't even have that option as I like solitude and quiet. Generator a great option to have no matter what. We love our Yamaha 2400i.

Canoe Stream,
Don't want to divert this thread to inverters but noted your reference to using one for your TV. I just bought a 150 watt Samlex pure sine wave inverter which powers the TV just fine but creates a major backfeed type hum out of the stereo woofer. Have you noticed any similar effect from yours?
Regards

Oooooh 27 Fb

I have the 25 FB SE Safari, and no offense to those who like the Classic look, I like the bare Aluminum...

If I win the lottery I'll buy a 27footer and about the only thing I'd do differently would be to get two Fantastic Fans instead of one fan and a plain vent in the bedroom. The vent has a white cover that will almost force you to be an early riser in the morning. Not good if the night before has consisted of late evening adult beverages. The fan cover is smoked.

Also if you do unplanned boondocking (flat tire) sleeping with a fan blowing DIRECTLY overhead is better! Fantastic does make them reversable... but apparently Airstream doesn't buy or install the reversable ones any more. (Of course I always have Velcro handy so I took my Endless Breeze fan and STUCK it over the open vent blowing down... then snnnnerkkkk!)

2007 FB 27 Classic, owner's experience

I have had mine for about 1 1/2 years. Have made 1 big trip out west and numerous shorter trips including week stay with 2 grandkids. I cannot say enough good things about it. I continually find small refinements, well thought out that make the rig outstanding. So my list of negatives is into the picky range, but include:
a) limited outside storage. It is what it is; judge for yourself.
b) micro wave/ convection oven is confusing, but haven't taken the trouble to learn it.
c) can't pick up stations on the AM band.... the manual is in 14 languages, and is challenged in English.

It is a heavy rig. All of those features and solid wood add up. It has a loaded max wt. of 9000 lbs. , but easy to control loadout in the 8000 lb. range for me. Tows like a dream. I use a prodigy brake controller. Disc brakes are a big plus.

Of a size that that will fit most parks. Big enough for 2 on an extended trip.

I have the wrap-around windows in the bedroom. A nice feature that I seldom use. Without the wrap-arounds, you get small wardrobes on either side rather than nightstands. I actually like the night stands.

You can't go wrong. Buddy evsjr@skybest .com

can anyone explain the logic between 27' and 28'? the 28' is 27'11" and the 27' is 28' in length. Why are there two different models for 1"?

Take a look at the layouts of the 2 units. Both different from each other.

Aha! Now I get it.
And now I'm stumped.

sorry, when I bought my 28' the salesman said the 27' was longer, when asked to explain he could not. I thought maybe someone knew the reason.
