'65 Overlander dimensions/placement fresh water tank

Hey again...Our 65 Overlander came with a fresh water tank behind the front gaucho under the window. The tank actually sits 3.25" higher than the gaucho frame, however. This just doesn't look to be the original size (too high, I figure) yet we were unable to find dimensions and/or pictures of tank with gaucho frame in here.

So I wonder...first: is behind the gaucho the original placement for the water tank? Second: our tank measures: 15Hx30Lx12D. What are the original tank's measurements? Third: any pictures of original tank placement with gaucho frame would sure help too.

Our gaucho will need replacing soon enough. I think the previous owners cobbled together a gaucho arrangement to accommodate a higher water tank, but just want to be sure. Thanks again, Vicki

I'm doing this from memory, but our fresh water tank in the '67 Overlander was behind/under the front gaucho. The fill tube is on the port side forward. The water pump was located on the port side and the water lines ran back to the galley and the head on the same side.

I may have some pictures of the tank/gaucho when we dismantled the interior. I'll look for them when I get home.

Our plan is to install a comfortable couch where the gaucho sat. We've held off on buying a new water tank until we figure out what the couch is going to be. I'd rather have a great couch and find a water tank that fits rather than a great water tank and a couch that fits.

The original and correct tank size is 12" x 12" x 52 inches.

The filler neck, "originally" can be installed on either side.

The 15 inch dimension, tells me that someone changed out the tank, with a larger than original size.

Got to TomW's web site below. He has a 67 Overlander. If you look under the 'white tank' tab you can see what an original looked like and there are pics of the water pub under the gaucho.

Thanks so much guys, you have been very helpful! We will be tackling the gaucho and new water tank situation in the fall, as we want to get out and about asap and enjoy the season. I have saved TomW's link and found it extremely helpful, thanks 68 TW. This site rocks
