What's on top of the subfloor???

The subfloor in my 2006 Safari looks like 1/2" plywood that's covered with a 1/8"-thick, black material I can't identify. What is it, and why was it used to cover the plywood?

Thanks for your help!

Titus

I have no clue. Could it be a leveling compound? Is it troweled on or is it actually a laid down as a sheet?

hi titus

unless your trailer has been possessed by demon pastry chefs...

the 'black stuff' is only around the perimeter.

this coating is applied to both sides and the cut edge of plywood when the floor is assembled and before the shell is mounted...

it is supposed to have magical powers that resist water/condensation at the floor/channel/shell junction...

my theory is they've got barrels of old cake frosting left over for the bazooka factory days...

and are slowing sneaking it out of the building in our trailers...

notice how they dust it with aluminum 'sprinkles'

cheers

Yep, that must be it. I was looking at the floor under the refer, where holes were cut in the subfloor so cables could reach the converter.

Thanks, guys!
