What is this thing, anyway?

I've been wondering just what this part is that hangs off the bottom of the frame. I'll call it a "lug". I only have one on the street side near the bumper. So should I have a matching one on the other side, too? Is it a "crash bar" to protect the dump fitting?

Skid bar. There should be a second one on the other side.

It's a skid bar as mentioned above, but usually there's only the one close to the dump valve outlet. Many "owner-added" versions can be found, but yours is factory. Darol

OK, that makes sense. I suspect the PO lost a wheel at some time couldn't tell if the skid bar had been clipped off during the incident.

So if its probably there to protect the dump valve outlet I guess there isn't much reason to add one on the other side?

Only the aluminum and belly pan under the trailer, as well as the back bumper and storage. I would add one.

Some TT's have skid wheels in the back. I always thought that was a better way.
My skid plates hit bottom at a mountainous campground in NC. Dealer had to heat them up and pound them back into position.
Without them though I would have suffered damage to the AS.

i also have one on that side only. it's more of a wheel thingy on mine. i've always wondered why there wasn't one the other side. the toilet was in the general location so protecting the dump valve would make sense, assuming they had dump valves in 1956.
