The flooring is original.
The flooring is installed first, and then furniture and cabinets installed on top of it.
Mobile homes (trailer houses, pre-fab, modular homes, whatever you want to call them) are also made this way.
I guess this method saves time on the production line.

So no buckling or moisture trapped underneath or any issues with it down covering the subfloor with everything then installed on top? It's probably easier for me to do that instead of cutting the pieces and doing finish work, but I worry about the issues others raise and am not sure. I'm for using single sheet faux wood vinyl. It's just a matter of covering the subfloor or trimming around the cabinetry.

The vinyl isn't that good. The idea of "what I cannot see" led me to eventually cut mine open to inspect the flooring; (could not stand the thought of potential floor issues) and then flip it back and staple it down and cover it all with a high end floating plank.

bad flooring 2016 22 sport

Hi all,
I have a new 2016 sport 22, after a 4 month trip my flooring is cracking and peeling back. I use rugs over the top all the time to keep the water and dirt out. Took it back to the dealer and now they want to strip out the inside a put down all new flooring because the wood under might be coming up also. Has anybody else had this problem ?

I haven't, but it sounds like it might be a good opportunity to go for some upgraded flooring.

Anyone considering flooring replacement needs to consider Luxury Woven Vinyl by Infinity. By far, the best "improvement" we've made to our Airstream. As fulltimers, we put all components of our Airstream to regular daily use and when the time came to do something new with the existing flooring, we've been very happy with Infinity's product. They are new to the RV market, but are worth a look.

Great warranty, light weight, wonderful color & style selection, self install friendly (if you're planning on doing a floating floor or plank install, you could handle this)
personally I recommend going with their product with the 1/4" foam backing... its a treat for your feet!!

I thought sheet vinyl would be safer?

We are making plans to renovate a 81 Excella II. My thought was that sheet vinyl laid underneath cabinets, etc. would isolate any water leak from the subfloor plywood, protecting it from wood rot. Is the factory-installed vinyl installed underneath the c-channel edge? Does it extend over the edge & cover the cut plywood edge?

I dunno. What am I misunderstanding?

Update on our floor

After two years and throw rugs, our floor is holding up fine
Only recommendation I'd make for new owners is to make sure you have a rug under the table leg as you travel..will keep this area from wearing out and indentation.

I installed the adhesive backed little carpet-like table leg pads. No scuffing after 7 years.

We are having the Infinity product installed in our 69. Not cheap nor easy in terms of having to pull the couches and water tank but we are looking forward to having it for many years to come.

Speaking of cheap vinyl. Mine has pulled away from under the rubber molding. I’m think of cutting out the vinyl that is visible on my floor ( not removing bed, cabinets, etc on my 19 ft Bambi) and replacing with some kind of durable carpet tile, then put molding all around where I can. ( not replacing bathroom area. But will leave with a transition piece from the carpet to the vinyl). Does this sound reasonable and has anyone tried this and what about pros and cons of carpet tile, besides the obvious of dirt, mud etc.

We just use cheap throw rugs and flip-flops kept outside by the door.
